Journal ArticleDOI
Does body mass index modify the association between physical activity and screen time with cardiometabolic risk factors in adolescents? Findings from a country-wide survey.
TL;DR: MVPA and ST are independently associated with cardiometabolic risk; the association with ST, however, appears modified by BMI, whereas a combination of increasing MVPA and decreasing ST is recommended in those who are overweight or obese.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variation in the eNOS gene modifies the association between total energy expenditure and glucose intolerance.
Paul W. Franks,Jian'an Luan,Inês Barroso,Soren Brage,Jose Luis Gonzalez Sanchez,Ulf Ekelund,Manuel Serrano Ríos,Alan J. Schafer,Stephen O'Rahilly,Nicholas J. Wareham +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the association between haplotype-tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms (htSNPs) with type 2 diabetes and total energy expenditure on glucose intolerance was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of social support intensity on walking in the severely obese: a randomized clinical trial.
TL;DR: Because social support is a potential method for promoting PA, this work compared mean steps/day during 18 weeks in severely obese outpatients receiving either standard support (SS) or added support (AS).
Journal ArticleDOI
Challenges for conducting blood collection and biochemical analysis in a large multicenter school-based study with adolescents: lessons from ERICA in Brazil
Felipe Vogt Cureau,Katia Vergetti Bloch,Aline Henz,Camila Wohlgemuth Schaan,Carlos Henrique Klein,Cecília Lacroix de Oliveira,Denise Tavares Giannini,Elisa Brosina de Leon,Gabriela de Azevedo Abreu,Gabriela Heiden Teló,Glauber Monteiro Dias,Kênia Mara Baiocchi de Carvalho,Laura Augusta Barufaldi,Maria Cristina Caetano Kuschnir,Moyses Szklo,Renan Magalhães Montenegro,Thiago Luiz Nogueira da Silva,Ulf Ekelund,Beatriz D'Agord Schaan +18 more
TL;DR: The logistics adopted in ERICA was fairly successful and description of this as well as the difficulties experienced in Brazil can inform and facilitate the planning of future studies, especially in developing countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective associations between sedentary time, physical activity, fitness and cardiometabolic risk factors in people with type 2 diabetes
Maxine Lamb,Kate Westgate,Soren Brage,Ulf Ekelund,Ulf Ekelund,Gráinne H. Long,Simon J. Griffin,Rebecca K. Simmons,Andrew J. M. Cooper +8 more
TL;DR: Encouraging people with recently diagnosed diabetes to increase their physical activity and decrease their sedentary time may have beneficial effects on their waist circumference, blood pressure and CCMR over 4 years of follow-up.
