Are Self-report Measures Able to Define Individuals as Physically Active or Inactive?
Jostein Steene-Johannessen,Sigmund Alfred Anderssen,Hidde P. van der Ploeg,Ingrid J M Hendriksen,Alan E. Donnelly,Soren Brage,Ulf Ekelund +6 more
TL;DR: The modest agreement between self-reported and objectively measured PA suggests that population levels of PA derived from self-report should be interpreted cautiously and implementation of objective measures in large-scale cohort studies and surveillance systems is recommended.
Journal ArticleDOI
International Children's Accelerometry Database (ICAD): design and methods
Lauren B. Sherar,Pippa Griew,Dale W. Esliger,Ashley R Cooper,Ulf Ekelund,Ulf Ekelund,Ken Judge,Chris Riddoch +7 more
TL;DR: Pooling raw accelerometer data and accompanying phenotypic data from a number of studies has the potential to create a more heterogeneous and potentially more representative sample, standardize and optimize the analytical methods used in the generation of outcome variables, and provide a means to study the causes of inter-study variability in physical activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variations in accelerometry measured physical activity and sedentary time across Europe - harmonized analyses of 47,497 children and adolescents
Jostein Steene-Johannessen,Bjørge H. Hansen,Knut Eirik Dalene,Elin Kolle,Kate Northstone,Niels Møller,Anders Grøntved,Niels Wedderkopp,Susi Kriemler,Angie S Page,Jardena J. Puder,John J. Anderssen,Ulf Ekelund +50 more
TL;DR: The findings should encourage policymakers, governments, and local and national stakeholders to take action to facilitate an increase in the physical activity levels of young people across Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predictive Validity and Classification Accuracy of ActiGraph Energy Expenditure Equations and Cut-Points in Young Children
Xanne Janssen,Dylan P. Cliff,John J. Reilly,Trina Hinkley,Rachel A. Jones,Marijka Batterham,Ulf Ekelund,Soren Brage,Anthony D. Okely +8 more
TL;DR: ActiGraph equations do not provide accurate estimates of energy expenditure across physical activity intensities in preschoolers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of diet and physical activity (DEDIPAC): a summary of findings.
Johannes Brug,Hidde P. van der Ploeg,Hidde P. van der Ploeg,Anne Loyen,Wolfgang Ahrens,Oliver Allais,Lene Frost Andersen,Greet Cardon,Laura Capranica,Sebastien F. M. Chastin,Sebastien F. M. TL;DR: An overview of what was achieved in terms of furthering measurement and monitoring is given, providing overviews of the state-of-the-art in the field, and building toolboxes for further research and practice is proposed.
