Effect of combined movement and heart rate monitor placement on physical activity estimates during treadmill locomotion and free-living.
Soren Brage,Niels Brage,Ulf Ekelund,Jian'an Luan,Paul W. Franks,Karsten Froberg,Nicholas J. Wareham +6 more
TL;DR: Quality of HR data was generally higher when monitors were placed in the lower position, and positioning the Actiheart at the level below the sternum may yield cleaner HR data, which is encouraging for studies where research participants may have to position the monitors themselves.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increase in physical activity energy expenditure is associated with reduced metabolic risk independent of change in fatness and fitness
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined whether change in physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE) is associated with change in metabolic risk factors and whether this association is independent of chan...
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical activity and gain in abdominal adiposity and body weight: prospective cohort study in 288,498 men and women
Ulf Ekelund,Hervé Besson,Jian'an Luan,Anne M. May,Stephen J. Sharp,Soren Brage,Noémie Travier,Antonio Agudo,Nadia Slimani,Sabina Rinaldi,Mazda Jenab,Teresa Norat,Traci Mouw,Sabine Rohrmann,Rudolf Kaaks,Manuela M. Bas Bueno-de-Mesquita,Saskia W. van den Berg,Andreani D. Odysseos,Elio Riboli,NJ Wareham,Petra H.M. Peeters,Petra H.M. Peeters +49 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that a higher level of PA reduces abdominal adiposity independent of baseline and changes in body weight and is thus a useful strategy for preventing chronic diseases and premature deaths.
Journal ArticleDOI
Objectively Measured Physical Activity and Bone Strength in 9-Year-Old Boys and Girls
TL;DR: Vigorous intensity emerged as the main physical activity predictor of femoral neck strength but did not explain gender differences, and daily vigorous physical activity for at least ∼25 minutes seems to improve Femoral neck bone health in children.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of physical activity on schoolchildren's academic performance: The Active Smarter Kids (ASK) cluster-randomized controlled trial
Geir Kåre Resaland,Eivind Aadland,Vegard Fusche Moe,Katrine Nyvoll Aadland,Turid Skrede,Mette Stavnsbo,Laura Suominen,Jostein Steene-Johannessen,Øyvind Glosvik,John Roger Andersen,Olav M. Kvalheim,Olav M. Kvalheim,Gunn Engelsrud,Gunn Engelsrud,Lars Bo Andersen,Lars Bo Andersen,Ingar Holme,Yngvar Ommundsen,Susi Kriemler,Willem van Mechelen,Heather A. McKay,Ulf Ekelund,Sigmund A. Anderssen,Sigmund A. Anderssen +23 more
TL;DR: This large, rigorously conducted cluster RCT in 10-year-old children supports the notion that there is still inadequate evidence to conclude that increased physical activity in school enhances academic achievement in all children.
