Journal ArticleDOI
Zinc is a potent and specific inhibitor of IFN-λ3 signalling
Scott A. Read,Kate S. O'Connor,V. Suppiah,Chantelle L Ahlenstiel,Stephanie Obeid,Kristina M. Cook,Anthony L. Cunningham,Mark W. Douglas,Philip J. Hogg,David R. Booth,Jacob George,Golo Ahlenstiel +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the rs12979860 CC genotype correlates with increased hepatic metallothionein expression through increased systemic zinc levels, providing the first evidence that zinc can act as a potent and specific inhibitor of IFN-λ3 signalling and highlight its potential as a target of therapeutic intervention for IFN -λ3-mediated chronic disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hepatic metallothionein expression in chronic hepatitis C virus infection is IFNL3 genotype-dependent
Kate S. O'Connor,Grant P Parnell,Ellis Patrick,Golo Ahlenstiel,V. Suppiah,David van der Poorten,Scott A. Read,Reynold Leung,Mark W. Douglas,Yee Hwa Yang,Graeme J. Stewart,Christopher Liddle,Jacob George,David R. Booth +13 more
TL;DR: For the first time, an association between a cluster of ISGs, the metallothioneins (MTs) and IFNL3 genotype is identified, and MTs were significantly upregulated (in contrast to most other ISGs) in HCV-infected liver biopsies of rs8099917 responders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of HCV-Specific IFN-γ Responses in HCV Antibody and HCV RNA Negative Injecting Drug Users.
Jacqueline K. Flynn,Rachel Sacks-Davis,Peter Higgs,Campbell Aitken,Sarah Moneer,V. Suppiah,Lilly Tracy,Rosemary A. Ffrench,Scott Bowden,Heidi E. Drummer,Jacob George,Mandvi Bharadwaj,Margaret Hellard +12 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrated the detection of HCV-specific IFN-γ responses in HCV antibody and RNA negative individuals, with a tendency for HCV -specific IF Nγ responses to be associated with HCV exposure.
Journal ArticleDOI
CCR5-Δ32 genotype does not improve predictive value of IL28B polymorphisms for treatment response in chronic HCV infection.

Jonsson,Helen Barrie,Sacha Stelzer-Braid,Shona Fletcher,Tanya L. Applegate,Jason Grebely,Gail V. Matthews,Mandvi Bharadwaj,Antonina Smedile +38 more
TL;DR: Although CCR5-Δ32 may affect viral clearance within closely controlled geographical and genetic environments, it is found no effect in larger cohorts treated with dual therapy, as well as in Australians of European ancestry.
Journal ArticleDOI
