Regression Diagnostics: Identifying Influential Data and Sources of Collinearity

The 2008 crash has left all the established economic doctrines - equilibrium models, real business cycles, disequilibria models - in disarray. Part of the problem is due to Smith’s "veil of ignorance": individuals unknowingly pursue society’s interest and, as a result, have no clue as to the macroeconomic effects of their actions: witness the Keynes and Leontief multipliers, the concept of value added, fiat money, Engel’s law and technical progress, to name but a few of the macrofoundations of microeconomics. A good viewpoint to take bearings anew lies in comparing the post-Great Depression institutions with those emerging from Thatcher and Reagan’s economic policies: deregulation, exogenous vs. endoge- nous money, shadow banking vs. Volcker’s Rule. Very simply, the banks, whose lending determined deposits after Roosevelt, and were a public service became private enterprises whose deposits determine lending. These underlay the great moderation preceding 2006, and the subsequent crash.

The Economic Institutions of Capitalism

This handbook looks to provide academics and students with a comprehensive and holistic understanding of the phenomenon of innovation. Innovation spans a number of fields within the social sciences and humanities: Management, Economics, Geography, Sociology, Politics, Psychology, and History. Consequently, the rapidly increasing body of literature on innovation is characterized by a multitude of perspectives based on, or cutting across, existing disciplines and specializations. Scholars of innovation can come from such diverse starting points that much of this literature can be missed, and so constructive dialogues missed. The Oxford Handbook of Innovation

What makes organizations so similar? We contend that the engine of rationalization and bureaucratization has moved from the competitive marketplace to the state and the professions. Once a set of organizations emerges as a field, a paradox arises: rational actors make their organizations increasingly similar as they try to change them. We describe three isomorphic processes-coercive, mimetic, and normative—leading to this outcome. We then specify hypotheses about the impact of resource centralization and dependency, goal ambiguity and technical uncertainty, and professionalization and structuration on isomorphic change. Finally, we suggest implications for theories of organizations and social change.

Entrepreneurs are individuals who pursue opportunities in the marketplace. In order to be a successful entrepreneur, some degree of connectivity within society is needed. This connectivity enables entrepreneurs to share ideas and information in the hope of some form of mutual exchange. Thus, connectivity in essence refers to collaboration or linkages that entrepreneurs have with other entities. This chapter will focus on explaining why entrepreneurial connectivity is needed within society with the goal of providing a holistic summary of its usefulness particularly in times of change.

Sports and entrepreneurship share similar characteristics, most notably the desire to win though being the best competitor in the industry. Athletes due to their experience in the sports industry and ability to harness social networks often focus on relationship marketing to derive a competitive advantage. Thus, athletes carve out an entrepreneurial marketing identity as a way of distinguishing themselves from other types of entrepreneurs. In this study, I focus on athlete entrepreneurs in terms of how they use collaborative ideation in order to form a social entrepreneurial identity. To understand athlete entrepreneurship, I based this study on three streams of literature: entrepreneurial identity, collaborative ideation and social entrepreneurship. A qualitative in-depth interview research methodology approach is undertaken as a way of understanding this process. Managerial implications and future research suggestions for athlete entrepreneurs are stated.

Despite the advances in technology and resulting societal progress, there is an increasing inequality amongst citizens and regions around the world. This has resulted in territories competing for funding and investment as a way to stay competitive. The tourism industry has been a major recipient of territorial initiatives that aim to attract visitors whilst maintaining and growing employment opportunities in regions. The aim of this chapter is to discuss how entrepreneurship and innovation lead to inequality, which affects territorial dynamics. The digital transformation in society is discussed in terms of creating benefits but also resulting in inequalities between rich and poor. The importance of exploring these dynamics is explained as a way to foster more dialogue on what territories can do.
