Journal ArticleDOI
Nanoparticle-induced widening of the temperature range of liquid-crystalline blue phases
Eva Karatairi,Brigita Rožič,Zdravko Kutnjak,Vassilios Tzitzios,George Nounesis,George Cordoyiannis,Jan Thoen,Christ Glorieux,Samo Kralj +8 more
TL;DR: Systematic high-resolution calorimetric studies reveal thatblue phase III is effectively stabilized in a wide temperature range by mixing surface-functionalized nanoparticles with chiral liquid crystals, yielding a robust method to stabilize blue phases, especially blue phase III.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis and characterization of 3D CoPt nanostructures.
TL;DR: Cobalt platinum polypod-like nanostructures were synthesized by thermolytic reduction of Pt(acac)2 and Co(CH3COO)2 in oleylamine at 250 degrees C and reveal a coercive field of 525 and 1200 Oe at room temperature and 5 K.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis and characterization of carbon nanotube/metal nanoparticle composites well dispersed in organic media
Vassilios Tzitzios,Vasilios Georgakilas,Eudokia Oikonomou,Michael A. Karakassides,Dimitrios Petridis +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were decorated with Au, Pt and Rh nanoparticles coated with oleylamine, which improved the colloidal dispersion of SWNTs in chloroform and other organic solvents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis of CoPt nanoparticles by a modified polyol method: characterization and magnetic properties.
TL;DR: CoPt nanoparticles with an average size of 3 nm and narrow distribution were synthesized by chemical reduction of Co(CH(3)COO)(2) and Pt(acac) by polyethyleneglycol-200, which results in coercivity up to 6 kOe at room temperature and 9 k Oe at 5 K because of the high magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the tetragonal structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Different modulated structures of topological defects stabilized by adaptive targeting nanoparticles
George Cordoyiannis,Venkata Subba Rao Jampani,Samo Kralj,Surajit Dhara,Vassilios Tzitzios,Georgia Basina,George Nounesis,Zdravko Kutnjak,Chandra Shekhar Pati Tripathi,Patricia Losada-Pérez,Dalija Jesenek,Christ Glorieux,Igor Muševič,Aleksander Zidanšek,Aleksander Zidanšek,Heinz Ameinitsch,Jan Thoen +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the twist-grain boundary phase in a chiral liquid crystal is driven by direct interactions between surface-functionalized CdSe quantum dots and screw dislocations.
