Journal ArticleDOI

Induction of microsomal stearyl coenzyme a desaturase in newly hatched chicks

TL;DR: It is proposed that the induction of the stearyl-CoA desaturases system during development of newly hatched chicks is dependent on the synthesis of the terminal desaturase enzyme.
Journal Article

Studies on the mechanism of fatty acid synthesis. XXIV. The acetyl- and malonyltransacylase activities of pigeon liver fatty acid synthetase.

TL;DR: Evidence is presented to show that the transacylase components of the pigeon liver fatty acid synthetase complex catalyze thetransacylations of acetyl and malonyl groups from their CoA thioesters to the thioester of Escherichia coli acyl carrier protein (ACP).
Journal ArticleDOI

Assay for the terminal enzyme of the stearoyl coenzyme A desaturase system using chick embryo liver microsomes.

TL;DR: The use of chick embryo liver microsomes in this method eliminates the need to use purified cytochrome b5 reductase, cyto chrome b5, and liposomes for routine assays and greatly reduces the complexities of timing and order of addition encountered in the existing assays.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hormonal regulation of fatty acid synthetase in chick embryo liver.

TL;DR: Immunochemical titrations of different enzyme preparations from 5-day-old chicks, adult chicken and various inducer-treated embryos gave an identical equivalence point, indicating that the changes in synthetase activity after hormonal induction in embryos are related entirely to changes in content of enzyme.
