Assessing the life cycle costs and environmental performance of lightweight materials in automobile applications

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the potential advantages of composites in automotive applications and quantified the life cycle costs and environmental performance of several suitable lightweight polymer composites compared against magnesium and steel for a representative component.
Journal ArticleDOI

Carbon fibre reinforced composite waste: An environmental assessment of recycling, energy recovery and landfilling

TL;DR: In this article, the environmental benefits of recycling are assessed against other end-of-life (EOL) treatments for Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) waste.
Journal ArticleDOI

Embedded Shape-Memory Alloy Wires for Improved Performance of Self-Healing Polymers**

TL;DR: In this paper, the first measurements of self-healing polymers with embedded shape-memory alloy (SMA) wires were reported, which showed improvements of healed peak fracture loads by up to a factor of 1.6, approaching the performance of the virgin material.
