Assessing the life cycle costs and environmental performance of lightweight materials in automobile applications
Robert A. Witik,Jérôme Payet,Véronique Michaud,Christian Ludwig,Christian Ludwig,Jan-Anders E. Månson +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the potential advantages of composites in automotive applications and quantified the life cycle costs and environmental performance of several suitable lightweight polymer composites compared against magnesium and steel for a representative component.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental determination of the permeability of textiles: A benchmark exercise
R. Arbter,J. M. Beraud,Christophe Binetruy,Laurent Bizet,Joël Bréard,Sébastien Comas-Cardona,C. Demaría,Andreas Endruweit,Paolo Ermanni,Frank Gommer,S. Hasanovic,P. Henrat,Florian Klunker,B. Laine,S. Lavanchy,Stepan Vladimirovitch Lomov,Andrew C. Long,Véronique Michaud,Gerd Morren,Edu Ruiz,Hugo Sol,François Trochu,Bart Verleye,M. Wietgrefe,W. Wu,Gerhard Ziegmann +25 more
TL;DR: In this international permeability benchmark exercise, in-plane permeability data for two reinforcement fabrics, obtained using a total of 16 different experimental procedures, were compared to find the main source of scatter in results from different procedures is related to human factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carbon fibre reinforced composite waste: An environmental assessment of recycling, energy recovery and landfilling
Robert A. Witik,R. Teuscher,Véronique Michaud,Christian Ludwig,Christian Ludwig,Jan-Anders E. Månson +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the environmental benefits of recycling are assessed against other end-of-life (EOL) treatments for Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) waste.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this paper, the in-plane permeability values of a carbon fabric were studied by twelve research groups worldwide and the aim of this work was to obtain comparable results in order to make a step toward standardization of permeability measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Embedded Shape-Memory Alloy Wires for Improved Performance of Self-Healing Polymers**
Eva L. Kirkby,Joseph D. Rule,Véronique Michaud,Nancy R. Sottos,Scott R. White,Jan-Anders E. Månson +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the first measurements of self-healing polymers with embedded shape-memory alloy (SMA) wires were reported, which showed improvements of healed peak fracture loads by up to a factor of 1.6, approaching the performance of the virgin material.
