The Decay of Negative Mesotrons in Matter

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that negative mesotrons after being slowed down can approach the nuclei and disappear by nuclear interactions, which is in sharp disagreement with current expectations.

The problem of an effective mass in nuclear matter

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the existence of nuclear matter and the independent particle description of its properties implies by itself that the average potential energy is momentum dependent, and that this momentum dependence is expressed in terms of an effective mass m ∗, one gets m/m ∗ = 3 2+( 5 2 )(P/T f ) where P is the packaging fraction and Tf the Fermi kinetic energy.
