Journal ArticleDOI
Targeted disruption of the melanocortin-4 receptor results in obesity in mice
Dennis Huszar,Catherine A. Lynch,Victoria Fairchild-Huntress,Judy H. Dunmore,Qing Fang,Lucy R Berkemeier,Wei Gu,Robert A. Kesterson,Bruce A. Boston,Roger D. Cone,Françoise J. Smith,L. Arthur Campfield,Paul Burn,Frank W. Lee +13 more
TL;DR: The data identify a novel signaling pathway in the mouse for body weight regulation and support a model in which the primary mechanism by which agouti induces obesity is chronic antagonism of the MC4-R.
Journal ArticleDOI
A role for Smad6 in development and homeostasis of the cardiovascular system
Katherine M. Galvin,Michael J. Donovan,Catherine A. Lynch,Ronald Meyer,Richard J. Paul,John N. Lorenz,Victoria Fairchild-Huntress,Kristen L. Dixon,Judy H. Dunmore,Michael A. Gimbrone,Dean A. Falb,Dennis Huszar +11 more
TL;DR: The role of Smad6 in the homeostasis of the adult cardiovascular system is indicated by the development of aortic ossification and elevated blood pressure in viable mutants, and defects highlight the importance of Smads in the tissue-specific modulation of Tgf-β superfamily signalling pathways in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeted mutation reveals a central role for SR-BI in hepatic selective uptake of high density lipoprotein cholesterol
Mariet Lee Varban,F. Rinninger,Nan Wang,Victoria Fairchild-Huntress,Judy H. Dunmore,Qing Fang,Michael Gosselin,Kristen L. Dixon,James Deeds,Susan L. Acton,Alan R. Tall,Dennis Huszar +11 more
TL;DR: Metabolic studies using HDL bearing nondegradable radiolabels in both the protein and lipid components demonstrated that reducing hepatic SR-BI expression by half was associated with a decrease in selective uptake of CE by the liver, and a corresponding reduction of 53% in selective removal of HDL-CE from plasma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mice deficient in fractalkine are less susceptible to cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.
Sulpicio G. Soriano,Lakshmi S. Amaravadi,Yanming F. Wang,Hong Zhou,Gary X. Yu,James R. Tonra,Victoria Fairchild-Huntress,Qing Fang,Judy H. Dunmore,Dennis Huszar,Yang Pan +10 more
TL;DR: The findings of this study indicate a possible role for FKN in augmenting postischemic injury and mortality after transient focal cerebral ischemia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Heart block, ventricular tachycardia, and sudden death in ACE2 transgenic mice with downregulated connexins
Mary Donoghue,Hiroko Wakimoto,Colin T. Maguire,Susan L. Acton,Paul Hales,Nancy E. Stagliano,Victoria Fairchild-Huntress,Jian Xu,John N. Lorenz,Vivek J. Kadambi,Charles I. Berul,Roger E. Breitbart,Roger E. Breitbart +12 more
TL;DR: Spontaneous downregulation of the ACE2 transgene in surviving older animals correlated with restoration of nearly normal conduction, rhythm, and connexin expression, indicating that ACE2-mediated gap junction remodeling may account for the observed electrophysiologic disturbances.
