Journal ArticleDOI
2-Hydroxyoleate, a nontoxic membrane binding anticancer drug, induces glioma cell differentiation and autophagy
Silvia Terés,Victoria Lladó,Mónica Higuera,Gwendolyn Barceló-Coblijn,Maria Laura Martin,Maria Antònia Noguera-Salvà,Amaia Marcilla-Etxenike,José Manuel García-Verdugo,Mario Soriano-Navarro,Carlos Saus,Ulises Gómez-Pinedo,Xavier Busquets,Pablo V. Escribá +12 more
TL;DR: 2-hydroxyoleic acid constitutes a new and potentially valuable therapeutic tool for glioma patients because of its high efficacy, low toxicity, ease of oral administration, and good distribution to the brain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of the cancer cell membrane lipid composition by NaCHOleate: effects on cell signaling and therapeutical relevance in glioma.
Victoria Lladó,David J. López,Maitane Ibarguren,María Alonso,Joan B. Soriano,Pablo V. Escribá,Xavier Busquets +6 more
TL;DR: Due to its low toxicity and anti-tumoral effect in cell and animal models its status as an orphan drug for glioma treatment by the European Medicines Agency was recently acknowledged and a phase 1/2A open label, non-randomized study was started in patients with advanced solid tumors including malignant gliomas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis and mass spectroscopy kinetics of a novel ternary copper(II) complex with cytotoxic activity against cancer cells.
Miquel Barceló-Oliver,Angel García-Raso,Angel Terrón,Elies Molins,M.J. Prieto,Virtudes Moreno,Jordi Martínez,Victoria Lladó,Iván López,Antonio Gutierrez,Pablo V. Escribá +10 more
TL;DR: Cell culture, cell proliferation assays, cell cycle analysis, and electrophoresis indicate that the parent complex is a potential anticancer drug.
Journal ArticleDOI
Minerval induces apoptosis in Jurkat and other cancer cells.
Victoria Lladó,Antonio Gutierrez,Jordi Martínez,Jesús Casas,Silvia Terés,Mónica Higuera,Antonio Galmés,Carles Saus,Joan Besalduch,Xavier Busquets,Pablo V. Escribá +10 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Minerval also induced apoptosis in Jurkat T‐lymphoblastic leukaemia and other cancer cells, and the effectiveness of this non‐toxic anticancer drug and its wide spectrum against different types of cancer is explained.
Effects on cell signaling and therapeutical relevance in glioma
Victoria Lladó,D avid J. López,Maitane Ibarguren,María Alonso,Joan B. Soriano,Pablo V. Escribá,Xavier Busquets +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a review summarizes the cellular bases of the effects of NaCHOleate (2-hydroxyoleic acid; 2OHOA; Minerval) against glioma and other types of tumors.
