Journal ArticleDOI
Prognostic role of ambulatory blood pressure measurement in patients with nondialysis chronic kidney disease.
Roberto Minutolo,Rajiv Agarwal,Silvio Borrelli,Paolo Chiodini,Vincenzo Bellizzi,Felice Nappi,Bruno Cianciaruso,Pasquale Zamboli,Giuseppe Conte,Francis B. Gabbai,Luca De Nicola +10 more
TL;DR: In chronic kidney disease, ambulatory BP measurement and, in particular, nighttime BP measurement, allows more accurate prediction of renal and cardiovascular risk; office measurement of BP does not predict any outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sevelamer Versus Calcium Carbonate in Incident Hemodialysis Patients: Results of an Open-Label 24-Month Randomized Clinical Trial
Biagio Di Iorio,Donald A. Molony,Cynthia S. Bell,Emanuele Cucciniello,Vincenzo Bellizzi,Domenico Russo,Antonio Bellasi +6 more
TL;DR: Sevelamer compared to a calcium-containing phosphate binder improves survival in a cohort of incident hemodialysis patients, however, the better outcomes in the sevelamer group may be due to better phosphate control rather than reduction in calcium load.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and prognostic role of resistant hypertension in chronic kidney disease patients.
Luca De Nicola,Francis B. Gabbai,Rajiv Agarwal,Paolo Chiodini,Silvio Borrelli,Vincenzo Bellizzi,Felice Nappi,Giuseppe Conte,Roberto Minutolo +8 more
TL;DR: In CKD, pseudoresistance is not associated with an increased cardio-renal risk, and sustained hypertension predicts only renal outcome, and true resistance is prevalent and identifies patients carrying the highest cardiovascular risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plant-based diets to manage the risks and complications of chronic kidney disease
Juan Jesus Carrero,Ailema González-Ortiz,Carla Maria Avesani,Stephan J. L. Bakker,Vincenzo Bellizzi,Philippe Chauveau,Catherine M. Clase,Adamasco Cupisti,Ángeles Espinosa-Cuevas,Pablo Molina,Karine Moreau,Giorgina Barbara Piccoli,Adrian Post,Siren Sezer,Denis Fouque +14 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that restriction of plant foods as a strategy to prevent hyperkalaemia or undernutrition should be individualized to avoid depriving patients with CKD of the potential beneficial effects of plant-based diets.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early Changes in Bioelectrical Estimates of Body Composition in Chronic Kidney Disease
Vincenzo Bellizzi,Luca Scalfi,V. Terracciano,Luca De Nicola,Roberto Minutolo,Maurizio Marra,Bruna Guida,Bruno Cianciaruso,Giuseppe Conte,Biagio Di Iorio +9 more
TL;DR: Despite the absence of overt malnutrition, patients with CKD exhibit altered BIA variables from the early phases of renal disease, which are related to the renal dysfunction, are more marked in the presence of diabetes, and mainly indicate the existence of overhydration in the absenceof edema.
