Journal ArticleDOI
Fragmentation and death (a.k.a. apoptosis) of ovulated oocytes
TL;DR: The results and discussions presented herein fully support previous conclusions reached by ourselves and others that fragmentation of ovulated oocytes is in fact an unequivocal example of apoptotic cell death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential Expression of Members of the bcl-2 Gene Family in Proliferative and Secretory Human Endometrium: Glandular Epithelial Cell Apoptosis Is Associated with Increased Expression of bax
Xiao-Jing Tao,Kim I. Tilly,Daniel V. Maravei,Jan L. Shifren,Stanislaw Krajewski,John C. Reed,Jonathan L. Tilly,Keith B. Isaacson +7 more
TL;DR: Results demonstrate a coordinated pattern of expression of bcl-2 gene family members in human endometrium during the menstrual cycle, with a shift toward greater levels of the proapoptosis protein, BAX, occurring in glandular epithelial cells during the secretory phase of the cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI
Requirement for phosphatidylinositol-3'-kinase in cytokine-mediated germ cell survival during fetal oogenesis in the mouse.
Yutaka Morita,Thomas F. Manganaro,Xiao-Jing Tao,Stephanie Martimbeau,Patricia K. Donahoe,Jonathan L. Tilly +5 more
TL;DR: The data indicate that the combined actions of SCF, LIF, and IGF-I are required for maximal inhibition of apoptosis in germ cells of fetal mouse ovaries, and that the PI3K signaling pathway is an essential component of cytokine-mediated female germ cell survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of apoptosis and expression of bcl-2 gene family members in the human and baboon ovary.
Koji Kugu,Valerie S. Ratts,Gary N Piquette,Kim I. Tilly,Xiao-Jing Tao,Stephanie Martimbeau,Graham W. Aberdeen,Stanislaw Krajewski,John C. Reed,Gerald J. Pepe,Eugene D. Albrecht,Jonathan L. Tilly +11 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that apoptosis occurs during, and is probably responsible for, folicular atresia in the human and baboon ovary.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of BCL-2, BAX and BAK in the Trophoblast Layer of the Term Human Placenta: a Unique Model of Apoptosis within a Syncytium
Valerie S. Ratts,Xiao-Jing Tao,C.B. Webster,P.E. Swanson,Steven D. Smith,Paul Brownbill,Stanislaw Krajewski,John C. Reed,Jonathan L. Tilly,D.M. Nelson +9 more
TL;DR: It is speculated that modulation of BAK expression is one factor regulating apoptosis in human trophoblast.
