Journal ArticleDOI
Global analysis of fission yeast mating genes reveals new autophagy factors.
Ling-Ling Sun,Ming Li,Fang Suo,Xiao-Man Liu,En-Zhi Shen,Bing Yang,Meng-Qiu Dong,Wanzhong He,Li-Lin Du +8 more
TL;DR: This study systematically examined the subcellular localization of fission yeast autophagy factors for the first time and characterized the phenotypes of their mutants, thereby uncovering both similarities and differences between the two yeasts.
Journal ArticleDOI
ESCRTs Cooperate with a Selective Autophagy Receptor to Mediate Vacuolar Targeting of Soluble Cargos
TL;DR: This work shows that fission yeast Nbr1, a homolog of mammalian autophagy receptor NBR1, interacts with and facilitates the transport of two cytosolic hydrolases into vacuoles, in a way reminiscent of the budding yeast cytoplasm-to-vacuole targeting (Cvt) pathway, a prototype of selective Autophagy.
Journal ArticleDOI
A UPR-Induced Soluble ER-Phagy Receptor Acts with VAPs to Confer ER Stress Resistance
Dan Zhao,Chen-Xi Zou,Xiao-Man Liu,Zhaodi Jiang,Zhong-Qiu Yu,Fang Suo,Tong-Yang Du,Meng-Qiu Dong,Wanzhong He,Li-Lin Du +9 more
TL;DR: It is reported that ER stress-induced ER-phagy in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe requires Epr1, a soluble Atg8-interacting ER- phagy receptor, which is upregulated during ER stress by the unfolded protein response (UPR) regulator Ire1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Atg20- and Atg24-family proteins promote organelle autophagy in fission yeast.
TL;DR: Fission yeast Atg20- and Atg24-family proteins promote starvation-induced autophagy of ER and mitochondria, and it is proposed that their function is to ensure that autophagosomes are of a sufficient size.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lipidation-independent vacuolar functions of Atg8 rely on its noncanonical interaction with a vacuole membrane protein
Xiao-Man Liu,Akinori Yamasaki,Xiao-Min Du,Valerie C. Coffman,Yoshinori Ohsumi,Hitoshi Nakatogawa,Jian-Qiu Wu,Nobuo N. Noda,Li-Lin Du +8 more
TL;DR: It is reported that in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe and the budding yeast SacCharomyces cerevisiae, the lipidation-independent roles of Atg8 in maintaining normal morphology and functions of the vacuole require its interaction with a vacuoles membrane protein Hfl1 (homolog of human TMEM184 proteins).
