Journal ArticleDOI

Autophagy precedes apoptosis during the remodeling of silkworm larval midgut

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that larval midgut degradation is due to the concerted action of the two mechanisms, which occur at different times and have different functions, and that the process of autophagy can recycle molecules from the degenerating cells and supply nutrients to the animal during the non-feeding period.
Journal ArticleDOI

20-hydroxyecdysone upregulates Atg genes to induce autophagy in the Bombyx fat body

TL;DR: It is concluded that in addition to blocking TORC1 activity for autophagosome initiation, 20E upregulates Atg genes to induce autophagy in the Bombyx fat body.
Journal ArticleDOI

BmATG5 and BmATG6 mediate apoptosis following autophagy induced by 20-hydroxyecdysone or starvation.

TL;DR: Being cleaved into BmATG5-tN and Bm ATG6-C, BmAtG5 and B mATG6 mediate apoptosis following autophagy induced by 20E or starvation in Bombyx Bm-12 cells, reflecting that autophileagy precedes apoptosis in the midgut during BombyX metamorphosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Control of Drosophila Blood Cell Activation via Toll Signaling in the Fat Body

TL;DR: Like in the humoral immune response, it is shown that Toll signaling in the fat body is of major importance in the Toll-dependent activation of blood cells and contributes very little to the immune response against the parasitoid wasp, Leptopilina boulardi.
Journal ArticleDOI

Systematic cloning and analysis of autophagy-related genes from the silkworm Bombyx mori

TL;DR: Bioinformatics in combination with RT-PCR enable us to remodel a preliminary pathway of autophagy in the silkworm, suggesting that the Autophagy should play an important role in Bombyx mori silkgland.
