North Atlantic wave height trends as reconstructed from the 20th century reanalysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report on the 1871-2010 trends in significant wave heights in the North Atlantic, as statistically reconstructed from the 20th century reanalysis (20CR) ensemble of mean sea level pressure (SLP) fields.
Journal ArticleDOI

Are greenhouse gas signals of Northern Hemisphere winter extra-tropical cyclone activity dependent on the identification and tracking algorithm?

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of the used algorithm on the changing signal, not the robustness of the climate change signal itself, was investigated for Northern Hemisphere extra-tropical cyclone activity, using one single transient AOGCM simulation as standard input for eleven state-of-theart identification methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detection of external influence on trends of atmospheric storminess and northern oceans wave heights

TL;DR: In this paper, the atmospheric storminess as inferred from geostrophic wind energy and ocean wave heights has increased in boreal winter over the past half century in the high-latitudes of the northern hemisphere (especially the northeast North Atlantic), and have decreased in more southerly northern latitudes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ocean Warming Effect on Surface Gravity Wave Climate Change for the End of the Twenty-First Century

TL;DR: In this paper, a coupled atmosphere-wave model by perturbing the sea surface temperatures (SSTs) with anomalies generated by the Working Group on Coupled Modeling (WGCM) phase 3 of the Coupled model Intercomparison Project (CMIP3) coupled models that use the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fourth Assessment Report (IPCC AR4)/Special Report on Emissions Scenarios A1B (SRES A1b) scenario late in the twenty-first century.

An Evaluation of the Performance of the Twentieth Century Reanalysis Version 3

Laura C. Slivinski, +47 more
- 01 Feb 2021 -
TL;DR: The performance of a new historical reanalysis, the NOAA-CIRES-DOE Twentieth Century Reanalysis version 3 (20CRv3), is evaluated via comparisons with other reanalyses and independent observations as mentioned in this paper.
