Journal ArticleDOI
The irregular xylem9 mutant is deficient in xylan xylosyltransferase activity.
TL;DR: It is shown that microsomes isolated from the stems of wild-type Arabidopsis exhibit XylT and GlcAT activities in the presence of exogenous 1,4-linked beta-d-xylooligomers.
Journal ArticleDOI
β-Galactosyl Yariv reagent binds to the β-1,3-galactan of arabinogalactan-proteins
Kiminari Kitazawa,Theodora Tryfona,Yoshihisa Yoshimi,Yoshihiro Hayashi,Susumu Kawauchi,Liudmil Antonov,Hiroshi Tanaka,Takashi Takahashi,Satoshi Kaneko,Paul Dupree,Yoichi Tsumuraya,Toshihisa Kotake +11 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that Yariv phenylglycosides should be considered specific binding reagents for β-1,3-galactan chains longer than five residues, and seven residues are sufficient for cross linking, leading to precipitation of the Yariv phenotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural Characterization of Arabidopsis Leaf Arabinogalactan Polysaccharides
Theodora Tryfona,Hui-Chung Liang,Toshihisa Kotake,Yoichi Tsumuraya,Elaine Stephens,Paul Dupree +5 more
TL;DR: The detailed structural elucidation of the AG polysaccharides from the leaves of Arabidopsis is essential for insights into the structure-function relationships of these molecules and will assist studies on their biosynthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
UDP-sugar Pyrophosphorylase with Broad Substrate Specificity Toward Various Monosaccharide 1-Phosphates from Pea Sprouts
Toshihisa Kotake,Daisuke Yamaguchi,Hiroshi Ohzono,Sachiko Hojo,Satoshi Kaneko,Hide Ki Ishida,Yoichi Tsumuraya +6 more
TL;DR: Recombinant PsUSP expressed in Escherichia coli catalyzed the formation of UDP-sugars from monosaccharide 1-phosphates and UTP with efficiency similar to that of the native enzyme.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carbohydrate structural analysis of wheat flour arabinogalactan protein.
Theodora Tryfona,Hui-Chung Liang,Toshihisa Kotake,Satoshi Kaneko,Justin T. Marsh,Hitomi Ichinose,Alison Lovegrove,Yoichi Tsumuraya,Peter R. Shewry,Elaine Stephens,Paul Dupree +10 more
TL;DR: A polysaccharide structure of the wheat flour AGP is proposed that is substantially revised from earlier models.
