Computer vision : a modern approach = 计算机视觉 : 一种现代的方法

Objective: To demonstrate optical coherence tomography for high-resolution, noninvasive imaging of the human retina. Optical coherence tomography is a new imaging technique analogous to ultrasound B scan that can provide cross-sectional images of the retina with micrometer-scale resolution. Design: Survey optical coherence tomographic examination of the retina, including the macula and optic nerve head in normal human subjects. Settings Research laboratory. Participants: Convenience sample of normal human subjects. Main Outcome Measures: Correlation of optical coherence retinal tomographs with known normal retinal anatomy. Results: Optical coherence tomographs can discriminate the cross-sectional morphologic features of the fovea and optic disc, the layered structure of the retina, and normal anatomic variations in retinal and retinal nerve fiber layer thicknesses with 10- μm depth resolution. Conclusion: Optical coherence tomography is a potentially useful technique for high depth resolution, cross-sectional examination of the fundus.

Optical Coherence Tomography of the Human Retina

Self-actuating materials capable of transforming between three-dimensional shapes have applications in areas as diverse as biomedicine, robotics, and tunable micro-optics. We introduce a method of photopatterning polymer films that yields temperature-responsive gel sheets that can transform between a flat state and a prescribed three-dimensional shape. Our approach is based on poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) copolymers containing pendent benzophenone units that allow cross-linking to be tuned by irradiation dose. We describe a simple method of halftone gel lithography using only two photomasks, wherein highly cross-linked dots embedded in a lightly cross-linked matrix provide access to nearly continuous, and fully two-dimensional, patterns of swelling. This method is used to fabricate surfaces with constant Gaussian curvature (spherical caps, saddles, and cones) or zero mean curvature (Enneper’s surfaces), as well as more complex and nearly closed shapes.

Advances in top-down and bottom-up surface nanofabrication: techniques, applications & future prospects.

The theory of image formation is formulated in terms of the coherence function in the object plane, the diffraction distribution function of the image-forming system and a function describing the structure of the object. There results a four-fold integral involving these functions, and the complex conjugate functions of the latter two. This integral is evaluated in terms of the Fourier transforms of the coherence function, the diffraction distribution function and its complex conjugate. In fact, these transforms are respectively the distribution of intensity in an 'effective source', and the complex transmission of the optical system-they are the data initially known and are generally of simple form. A generalized 'transmission factor' is found which reduces to the known results in the simple cases of perfect coherence and complete incoherence. The procedure may be varied in a manner more suited to non-periodic objects. The theory is applied to study inter alia the influence of the method of illumination on the images of simple periodic structures and of an isolated line.

On the diffraction theory of optical images

Large-area surface-plasmon polariton (SPP) interference lithography is presented, which uses an attenuated total reflection-coupling mode to excite the interference of the SPPs. The interference of the SPPs causes a highly directional intensity range in a finite depth of the electric field, which is good for noncontact. Finite-difference time-domain simulations of the interference on a thin resist layer show that broad-beam illumination with a p-polarized light at a wavelength of 441 nm can produce features as small as 60 nm with high contrast, smaller than λ/7. Our results illustrate the potential for patterning periodic structures over large areas at low cost.

A novel real-time gray-scale photolithography technique for the fabrication of continuous microstructures that uses a LCD panel as a real-time gray-scale mask is presented. The principle of design of the technique is explained, and computer simulation results based on partially coherent imaging theory are given for the patterning of a microlens array and a zigzag grating. An experiment is set up, and a microlens array and a zigzag grating on panchromatic silver halide sensitized gelatin with trypsinase etching are obtained.

Real-time gray-scale photolithography for fabrication of continuous microstructure.

A robot scanning system consisting of a portable laser 3-D scanner and an industrial robot is demonstrated. In this system, the scanner is precalibrated by the traditional nonlinear two-step approach. In addition, by using a criterion sphere as the calibration object, a new robot tool center point (TCP) calibration approach is proposed for calibrating the relation between the precalibrated laser 3-D scanner and the robot. In this approach, two different translational motions of the robot are first made to determine the rotation part, and then at least three different rotational motions are made to determine the translation part. During the process, the extrinsic camera parameters are not recalibrated for each robot motion, so the calibration errors brought by camera calibration can be decreased. Moreover, the calibration error due to robot positioning error can be decreased by making use of the differences of different robot positions in calculations. An experiment was performed on a portable laser 3-D scanner and an ABB IRB-4400 industrial robot to test the validity of the proposed calibration approach. The experimental results show that this approach is simple and accurate compared to the conventional robot TCP calibration approach.
