Long-Term Outcomes after Repeat Doses of Antenatal Corticosteroids
Ronald J. Wapner,Ronald J. Wapner,Yoram Sorokin,Lisa Mele,Francee Johnson,Donald J. Dudley,Catherine Y. Spong,Alan M. Peaceman,Kenneth J. Leveno,Fergal D. Malone,Steve N. Caritis,Brian M. Mercer,Margaret Harper,Dwight J. Rouse,John M. Thorp,Susan M. Ramin,Marshall W. Carpenter,Steven G. Gabbe +17 more
TL;DR: Long-term follow-up results of children enrolled in a randomized trial comparing single and repeat courses of antenatal corticosteroids showed the higher rate of cerebral palsy among children who had been exposed to repeat doses of cortiosteroids is of concern and warrants further study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complications of anesthesia for cesarean delivery.
Steven L. Bloom,Catherine Y. Spong,Steven J. Weiner,Mark B. Landon,Dwight J. Rouse,Michael W. Varner,Atef H. Moawad,Steve N. Caritis,Margaret Harper,Ronald J. Wapner,Yoram Sorokin,Menachem Miodovnik,Mary Jo O'Sullivan,Baha M. Sibai,Oded Langer,Steven G. Gabbe +15 more
TL;DR: Increased maternal size, higher preoperative risk, rapid decision-to-incision interval, and placement later in labor were all significantly related to an increased risk of a failed regional procedure, indicating regional techniques have become the preferred method of anesthesia for cesarean delivery.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-Term Outcomes After Repeat Doses of Antenatal Corticosteroids
Ronald J. Wapner,Yoram Sorokin,Lisa Mele,Francee Johnson,Donald J. Dudley,Catherine Y. Spong,Alan M. Peaceman,Kenneth J. Leveno,Fergal D. Malone,Steve N. Caritis,Brian M. Mercer,Margaret Harper,Dwight J. Rouse,John M. Thorp,Susan M. Ramin,Marshall W. Carpenter,Steven G. Gabbe +16 more
TL;DR: Although Bayley scores were comparable between the groups, the children of women who received ≥4 courses of steroids were more likely to have cerebral palsy or to die than were those whose mothers received placebo, and the investigators conclude that repeat doses of antenatal corticosteroids lack long-term benefit and may harm the infant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Defining failed induction of labor.
William A. Grobman,Jennifer L. Bailit,Yinglei Lai,Uma M. Reddy,Ronald J. Wapner,Michael W. Varner,John M. Thorp,Kenneth J. Leveno,Steve N. Caritis,Mona Prasad,Alan T.N. Tita,George R. Saade,Yoram Sorokin,Dwight J. Rouse,Sean C. Blackwell,Jorge E. Tolosa +15 more
TL;DR: Data suggest that cesarean delivery should not be undertaken during the latent phase prior to at least 15 hours after oxytocin and rupture of membranes have occurred, and suggest the decision to continue labor beyond this point should be individualized, and may take into account factors such as other evidence of labor progress.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association Between Gestational Weight Gain and Perinatal Outcomes.
Michelle A. Kominiarek,George R. Saade,Lisa Mele,Jennifer L. Bailit,Uma M. Reddy,Ronald J. Wapner,Michael W. Varner,John M. Thorp,Steve N. Caritis,Mona Prasad,Alan T.N. Tita,Yoram Sorokin,Dwight J. Rouse,Sean C. Blackwell,Jorge E. Tolosa +14 more
TL;DR: In a large, diverse cohort with prospectively collected data, gestational weight gain below or above guidelines is associated with a variety of adverse pregnancy outcomes.
