Journal ArticleDOI
Heritable gene targeting in zebrafish using customized TALENs
TL;DR: The use of TALENs is reported to disrupt both of the two endogenous zebrafish genes the authors targeted and show that the mutations are transmitted through the germ line, confirming that TALens could induce DSBs and activate the DNA repair pathway through nonhomologous endjoining in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
TALEN-mediated precise genome modification by homologous recombination in zebrafish
Yao Zu,Xiangjun Tong,Zhanxiang Wang,Da Liu,Ruochuan Pan,Zhe Li,Yingying Hu,Zhou Luo,Peng Huang,Qian Wu,Zuoyan Zhu,Bo Zhang,Shuo Lin +12 more
TL;DR: Homologous recombination in zebrafish with a dsDNA donor expands the utility of this model organism and successfully targeted two additional genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The draft genome of the grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) provides insights into its evolution and vegetarian adaptation
Yaping Wang,Ying Lu,Yong Zhang,Zemin Ning,Yan Li,Qiang Zhao,Hengyun Lu,Rong Huang,Xiao-Qin Xia,Qi Feng,Xufang Liang,Kunyan Liu,Lei Zhang,Tingting Lu,Tao Huang,Danlin Fan,Qijun Weng,Chuanrang Zhu,Yiqi Lu,Wen-Jun Li,Ziruo Wen,Congcong Zhou,Qilin Tian,Xiaojun Kang,Mijuan Shi,Wanting Zhang,Songhun Jang,Fukuan Du,Shan He,Lanjie Liao,Yongming Li,Bin Gui,Huihui He,Zhen Ning,Cheng Yang,Libo He,Lifei Luo,Rui Yang,Qiong Luo,Xiaochun Liu,Shuisheng Li,Wen Huang,Ling Xiao,Haoran Lin,Bin Han,Zuoyan Zhu +45 more
TL;DR: It is found that transcriptional activation of the mevalonate pathway and steroid biosynthesis in liver is associated with the grass carp's adaptation from a carnivorous to an herbivorous diet and could serve as an initial platform for breeding better-quality fish using a genomic approach.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular basis and genetic improvement of economically important traits in aquaculture animals
Jian-Fang Gui,Zuoyan Zhu +1 more
TL;DR: The molecular basis of several economically important traits including reproduction, sex, growth, disease resistance, cold tolerance and hypoxia tolerance are outlined and a series of candidate trait-related genes are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reverse genetic approaches in zebrafish.
TL;DR: The major reverse genetic approaches for loss-of-function studies used and emerging in zebrafish are summarized, including strategies based on genome-wide mutagenesis and methods for site-specific gene targeting.
