TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a comprehensive study to identify the Risk Factors (RFs) in supply chain and evaluate them using Fuzzy based analytic hierarchical process (Fuzzy AHP).
Abstract: Managing supply chain risk is a big challenge for any organization. The purpose of the paper is to provide a methodology for assessing supply chain risk using the Fuzzy based Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy AHP). This study presents a comprehensive study to identify the Risk Factors (RFs) in supply chain and evaluate them. In this paper, sixteen risk factors were identified based on extensive literature survey. To limit the scope of the work, focus was on transaction and infrastructural risk and avoiding the demand risk. The RFs are formulated as hierarchy structure and Fuzzy AHP as a Multi Attribute Decision Making (MADM) tool applied to judge the viable candidates. A revised risk matrix with a continuous scale was proposed to assess the RFs classes. The result classifies the RFs in different categories (Extreme, High, Medium and Low). Based on this result, some management implications and suggestions are proposed. The revised risk matrix with continuous scale for risk assessment in supply chain is a novel

TL;DR: The results show that the long memory parameter is significant and quite stable for both unconditional and conditional volatility measures across different time scales, and can help in forecasting the expected volatility in the Bitcoin market and thereby in developing and implementing trading strategies.
Abstract: Using the high-frequency data of Bitcoin, this paper investigates the long memory characteristics of the unconditional and conditional volatilities of Bitcoin at different time scales using the local Whittle (LW) estimator, the exact local Whittle (ELW) estimator and the ARMA–FIAPARCHmodel. The results show that the long memory parameter is significant and quite stable for both unconditional and conditional volatility measures across different time scales. This paper also examines the long memory characteristics of the unconditional and conditional “realized” volatilities of Bitcoin at different time scales using the local Whittle (LW) estimator, exact local Whittle (ELW) estimator and the ARFIMA model. Long memory is found to be significant and stable also in case of unconditional and conditional “realized” volatilities. The study also undertakes quarterly non-overlapping rolling window analysis to develop deeper insights into the evolution of long memory parameter, d, over the period. The results indicate high persistence in the Bitcoin market. This study has useful implications for different investors and market participants having varying exposures in the Bitcoin market depending on their trading horizons. The findings can help them in forecasting the expected volatility in the Bitcoin market and thereby in developing and implementing trading strategies.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined customers' perceived service quality, customer satisfaction, positive word of mouth (+WOM), and problems encountered at automated teller machine (ATMs) of Indian retail banks.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine customers' perceived 'service quality', 'customer satisfaction', 'positive word of mouth' (+WOM) and 'problems encountered' at automated teller machine (ATMs) of Indian retail banks. It also attempts to propose a modified and refined Parasuraman's SERVQUAL scale relevant for the Indian context as also suggests a comprehensive model for measuring automated service quality at bank ATMs. A structured questionnaire, drawn together from literature, was used to collect data from a total of 219 ATM customers. The proposed refined scale has been tested for dimensionality, reliability, and validity and the research model was tested for validation through structural equation model (SEM) using LISREL 8.50. Research results indicate that expectations of ATM patrons in India were not being fully met. The highest gap score was observed for 'convenience' dimension followed by 'tangibles'. Results also show that service quality and customer satisfaction effect WOM positively and significantly while problems encountered had a negative impact on customer expectations.

TL;DR: Insight is provided on how firms can develop their big data expertise along various dimensions and critical ideas to be further investigated are identified to better understand the issues that practitioners and researchers might be equally grappling with.
Abstract: We attempt to demonstrate the value of big data to enterprises by interweaving the perceptions, challenges, and opportunities of big data for businesses. While enterprises are aware of the value of big data to their businesses, there are challenges of exploiting big data in terms of data quality and usage. Executives might lack knowledge on how applications are related to one another in the big data ecosystem and the business benefits to reap. We summarize the results of a research study that explores emerging business perceptions of big data. We examine the current practice in 20 large enterprises, each having an annual revenue of more than USD 0.5 billion and present our findings related to executive perceptions. We provide insights on how firms can develop their big data expertise along various dimensions and identify critical ideas to be further investigated to better understand the issues that practitioners and researchers might be equally grappling with.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the key dimensions of automated teller machine (ATM) service quality and attempt to analyse the dynamic relationships among service quality, e-satisfaction and e-loyalty in Indian bank industry.
Abstract: This study aims to identify the key dimensions of automated teller machine (ATM) service quality and attempts to analyse the dynamic relationships among service quality, e-satisfaction and e-loyalty in Indian bank industry. Items were drawn from well-known SSTQUAL model, with cultural adjustment and industry specific modifications. A structured questionnaire in English language was used to collect the data from 360 ATM users. Research findings show that security/privacy and enjoyments have emerged as key dimensions that concern ATM users in India. The relative importance of the SSTQUAL dimensions identified in this study provides bank managers with a handbook as to which issues are critical in order of importance. Because of the limited sample size, the research results may lack generalisability. More replicative works are needed to enhance the generalisability.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the impact of disasters on women along with the measures taken by the state and the required public policy for the women affected during the said period, based on content analysis of the secondary data.
Abstract: Disasters are one of the most perilous ways to show nature its anger. The pressure of ever-increasing wants and never-ending desires of human beings push them to exploit natural resources. This exploitation causes havocs which further results into catastrophes and disasters. The impact of such natural hazards goes widespread. However, within the affected population, it is the women who suffer the most. Women are the most vulnerable section of any society and therefore, vastly affected by any disaster either man made or natural. Due to their vulnerability, they have the least ability to recover from such losses. Their resilience power is abysmal due to their low educational status, lack of knowledge, and awareness. This paper focuses on some of the critical issues and concerns relating to the vulnerability of women at the times of disasters. The present paper will examine the impact of disasters on women along with the measures taken by the state and the required public policy for the women affected during the said period. This paper is based on content analysis of the secondary data.

TL;DR: The context and context sensitivity exhibited by mobile phones and smart devices are reviewed and a functional taxonomy classification is provided, which could act as a framework in the design and development of CSSD.
Abstract: Smart devices are no longer fashionable artefacts but have found mainstream adoption. Smart devices help humans by being context-sensitive, run errands or execute tasks and support their daily operations. This paper defines these context-sensitive smart devices (CSSD). We review the context and context sensitivity exhibited by mobile phones and smart devices. We further discuss the functionality of these smart devices and provide a functional taxonomy classification. This functional taxonomy could act as a framework in the design and development of CSSD. We illustrate the application of the functional taxonomy in different contexts, bringing out the characteristics, challenges and applications in each context.

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of risk avoidance and financial well-being on the intention to invest in equity products was analyzed using PLS-SEM and it was found that financial wellbeing and risk avoidance have a negative influence on investment intention.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to understand the influences of risk avoidance and financial well-being on the intention to invest in equity products. Risk avoidance - a reflective construct was measured using a seven-item scale while financial well-being, also a reflective construct was measured using an established eight-item scale. Survey data for urban, retail, middle-class investors was collected across four cities in India. This was then analysed using PLS-SEM and it was found that financial well-being and risk avoidance have a negative influence on the intention to invest in equity products. The finding regarding risk avoidance and intention to invest corroborated earlier studies. A counterintuitive finding was that financial well-being or the feeling of financial security does not embolden an investor to invest in the stock markets rather it seems to prove a deterrent for stock market participation. This suggests that financial institutions may need to highlight gaps in financial security of households or use other creative means of communication to increase stock market participation.

TL;DR: This work takes up the question of how the impatience characteristics of the procurer (and in turn his/her procurement decisions) get affected by two behavioral factors, namely, delay horizon and situational involvement, and test the model using a factorial experiment and finds that impatience degree and type are affected.
Abstract: Cloud computing has transformed the decision-making processes involved in the procurement of information-technology services. Not only has it brought about tremendous speed-ups to computing jobs, but also, the flexibility it provides in terms of availability and pricing options now enables a consumer to make trade-offs between price and time, based on the situation on-hand and the turnaround-time requirements. These price-time trade-offs have been studied in the behavioral-economic literature, but have not been considered formally in the procurement and the cloud-system bodies of literature. We fill this gap, by taking up the question of how the impatience characteristics of the procurer (and in turn his/her procurement decisions) get affected by two behavioral factors, namely, delay horizon and situational involvement. We test the model using a factorial experiment with 180 participants and find that impatience degree and type are affected by delay horizon and situational involvement. We discuss practical implications for a cloud-service provider, as well as implications for the intertemporal and IS literature.

TL;DR: In this article, a structured questionnaire was used to collect data (n = 1,000) using systematic sampling from users of brands above 18 years of age from India and multivariate data analysis techniques like exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modelling were used to analyse data.
Abstract: Understanding consumers is most crucial in the current scenario, and this study is an effort to investigate how to get consumers to evangelise a brand. While tapping into the understanding of brand evangelism, the goal of this paper is to highlight the various antecedents to an evangelising consumer in India which can help marketers identify them and target marketing spends accordingly. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data (n = 1,000) using systematic sampling from users of brands above 18 years of age from India. Multivariate data analysis techniques like exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modelling were used to analyse data. Analysis showed that salience, resonance and brand trust are imperative determinants of brand evangelism. Results of this study propose that marketers may want to focus on escalating brand trust and top of the mind recall which will resonate with the consumer to build brand evangelist in the marketplace.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the Feldstein-Horioka puzzle using a novel time-frequency approach to estimate the wavelet-based retention and correlation coefficients for a cross-section of 15 Asian countries over the period 1972-2016.
Abstract: We investigate the Feldstein-Horioka (1980) puzzle using a novel time-frequency approach. The wavelet-based retention and correlation coefficients are estimated for a cross-section of 15 Asian countries over the period 1972–2016. The countries are grouped as OCED countries (Japan and South Korea), least developed countries (like Bangladesh and Nepal), the large countries (like India and China), and the small countries (like Sri Lanka and Pakistan). Our approach reveals some interesting insights on the relationship between investment and saving rates and investment and current account deficits.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the long-term and short-term relationship between selected macroeconomic variables and the selected Indian stock market sector indices over the period of 2010 to 2017.
Abstract: This study investigates the long-term and short-term relationships between selected macroeconomic variables and the selected Indian stock market sector indices over the period of 2010 to 2017. The Johansen Co-integration Test, the Vector error correction model (VECM), is applied to calculate the long-term and short-term relationship between sector indices and macroeconomic variables. It is found that stock prices are exposed to macroeconomic factors, but the level of sensitivity is different in different sectors. Out of five sectors taken in the study, it is found that only the realty sector has long run relationship with macroeconomic variables. Other sectors have no long run relationship with macroeconomic variables. Along with this, it is also found that the Auto index has a significant short-term positive relationship with gold prices and the FMCG sector index has a significant short-term positive relationship with industrial production. The consumer price index and exchange rate have significant short run relationship with realty sector index.

TL;DR: In this paper, a classic case concerning a long-standing debate in the history of management: Does the firm exists for shareholders' wealth maximization or for stakeholders' value creation?
Abstract: This is a classic case concerning a long-standing debate in the history of management: Does the firm exists for shareholders’ wealth maximization or for stakeholders’ value creation? The case begins with the effect of levying additional cess on the FMCG product, cigarettes, on the share price of the company; and anchors around the argument—is the bare minimum meeting of regulatory mandate of the Government good enough for an organization to acquire favourable perceptions from their stakeholders; or are there other factors which impact legitimacy?

TL;DR: In this paper, a study report on this area of research which is expected to contribute immensely to the remanufacturing business is presented, and the problem is studied with developing some mechanism on the possible frequency of the re-manufacturing of a new product.
Abstract: With the intensification of Globalization, customers’ environment-friendly attitude and stringent environmental regulations, the manufacturers have been orienting their manufacturing and other value additive processes towards the development of more environment-friendly products and use of relevant processes including taking back of used products after their end-of-use or end-of-life from the end users. Remanufacturing is one of the prominent and popular options. Remanufacturing perhaps has drawn maximum attention because of its economic viability and environmental cleanliness. The remanufacturing operation depends upon the quality and quantity of the used. Better the quality lesser the remanufacturing cost. A remanufacturer is unaware about the condition of used product before its acquisition. It may also be noted that the remanufactured product may be taken after a period of its use by users. So it is really difficult to judge how many cycles does the product go for remanufacturing. This has drawn the attention of the authors and the problem is studied with developing some mechanism on the possible frequency of the remanufacturing of a new product. This paper is a study report on this area of research which is expected to contribute immensely to the remanufacturing business.
