TL;DR: The authors examined the discursive positionings and emotions related to them of a group of three seventh class students discussing the definition of terms associated with the circle topic and interviewed them regarding their emotions during the process of defining the geometric terms.
Abstract: This research examines the discursive positionings and emotions related to them of a group of three seventh class students. We videoed the group of students' discussions regarding the definition of terms associated with the circle topic and interviewed them regarding their emotions during the process of defining the geometric terms. We used the discursive analysis of Evans, Morgan and Tsatsaroni to analyze the participants' positionings and emotions. The research results indicate that the learning atmosphere in the group was positive due to type of leadership that prevailed, as well as to the collaborative working with a technological tool. This atmosphere resulted in the students having positive emotions about their learning.

TL;DR: In this article, the significance of the incidence of female principals in the urban sector of Eretz Israel, against the background of growing Jewish society, through the prism of which we can view the development of modern Hebrew education during the waning Ottoman rule.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyse the significance of the incidence of female principals in the urban sector of Eretz Israel, against the background of growing Jewish society, through the prism of which we can view the development of modern Hebrew education during the waning Ottoman rule. Design/methodology/approach – In addition to the archival material, contemporary newspapers provided an important source, as did memoirs of prominent people that, to some extent, filled in the “gaps”, more on the running of the schools and less on the activities of the four principals. Findings – A survey of the archival material reveals that the four women share biographical elements, their talents, personalities and education obtained abroad, style of school leadership and organization, not to mention their moral contribution to the education of girls in Eretz Israel. Practical implications – One may point to other fields in which women began to play a more prominent role, based on European...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate to what extent SBM in Arab-Bedouin elementary schools has impacted local curriculum development and make specific recommendations for enabling Arab Bedouin SBM schools to create curricula while taking into consideration the cultural, political and social contexts in which they operate.
Abstract: Since the last few decades of the twentieth century, increased independence and autonomy of local schools through the implementation of school-based management (SBM) have become widespread in Western education. SBM is designed to operate within a more general framework of decentralisation of the educational authority. This research set out to investigate to what extent SBM in Arab-Bedouin elementary schools has impacted local curriculum development. Ten Israeli Arab-Bedouin elementary schools participated in the study. A questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were used as research tools, and the data analysis revealed that because of a complex set of cultural and political factors, there is no curriculum development in these schools. This paper concludes with specific recommendations for enabling Arab-Bedouin SBM schools to create curricula while taking into consideration the cultural, political and social contexts in which they operate.
