TL;DR: Benner’s Novice to Expert Model provides the necessary conceptual structure to guide simulation facilitator development and assist in understanding learning trajectory.
Abstract: This paper details the application of Benner’s Novice to Expert Model to simulation educator knowledge, skills, and attitude for academic and practice settings. Facilitator development in the use of simulation methods is gaining more attention and support. If simulation is to continue to advance as a discipline, a theoretical basis is needed. The Novice to Expert Model provides the necessary conceptual structure to guide simulation facilitator development and assist in understanding learning trajectory. This theory-based approach that defines and operationalizes the five stages of development provides guidance for development resources, educational programs, and infrastructure needed at various program levels.

TL;DR: This study explored two different levels of immersive VRS capability in nursing education by training students in the skill of decontamination using traditional methods or with VRS options of mouse and keyboard or head-mounted display technology.
Abstract: With increasing use of virtual reality simulation (VRS) in nursing education and given the vast array of technologies available, a variety of levels of immersion and experiences can be provided to students. This study explored two different levels of immersive VRS capability. Study participants included baccalaureate nursing students from three universities across four campuses. Students were trained in the skill of decontamination using traditional methods or with VRS options of mouse and keyboard or head-mounted display technology. Results of focus group interviews reflect the student experience and satisfaction with two different immersive levels of VRS.

TL;DR: The task force proposes a seventh QSEN competency, systems-based practice, to improve patient quality and safety and involves a comprehensive continuing education program for nurses upon interview, orientation, residency programming, performance evaluation, and license renewal.
Abstract: The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Institute RN-BSN Task Force presents a white paper on Recommendation for a Systems-based Practice Competency. The task force proposes a seventh QSEN competency, systems-based practice, to improve patient quality and safety. Recommendations to integrate systems-based practice into both education and practice settings, consistent with job descriptions and promotion criteria, involve a comprehensive continuing education program for nurses upon interview, orientation, residency programming, performance evaluation, and license renewal.

TL;DR: The development, implementation, and outcomes of the Health Information Technology Scholars (HITS) program are reported, attributed to the strength of the faculty development collaborative partnership, the applicant selection process, and the program design.
Abstract: AIM This article reports the development, implementation, and outcomes of the Health Information Technology Scholars (HITS) program. BACKGROUND HITS is one of nine faculty development collaborative projects funded by the Health Resource Service Administration to integrate information and other technologies in nursing education and practice. METHOD In addition to evaluating the content and context of the program, the evaluation includes descriptive statistics, goal attainment scaling, diffusion of innovation index, utilization of knowledge survey, and exemplars from scholars. RESULTS The HITS program developed 265 faculty across 132 nursing programs in 43 states over 5 years. HITS scholars impacted more than 59,000 students and 9,000 other faculty. These technology leaders have numerous presentations, publications, and awards. CONCLUSION Success of the HITS program is attributed to the strength of the faculty development collaborative partnership, the applicant selection process, and the program design.
