Different aspects of the meaning and usage of the word terrorism with an insight into the contemporary Anglo-Saxon and Francophone media

Abstract: The difference in the choice of the vocabulary used when reporting about terrorist acts in the media is undeniable. Journalists do not decide to use the words terrorist or terrorism lightly. Evolution of their meaning over time is inseparable from the evolution of the phenomenon of terrorism itself. It is traced back from the time of the French Revolution to the most recent examples of terrorism. Beside being difficult to define legally, the word terrorism is characterized as pejorative with a growing number of euphemisms. Examples from the contemporary Anglo – Saxon and Francophone media confirm that the word terrorism is controversial, subjective and highly politically and emotionally charged and it acquires different meanings depending on the needs of its interpretation. Its usage is determined by the contextual circumstances, political beliefs of the speaker, his intention, point of view and emotions.

Economic Growth and Tourism Demand in Croatia: the Cyclical Component Analysis

Abstract: Development of tourism has often been considered as a positive contributor to economic growth. The impact of tourism to a country economy is multifaceted. As such, tourism may represent an excellent tool for development. This paper presents preliminary fi ndings using descriptive statistics and spectral analysis. Therefore, the main purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between the cyclical components of Croatian economy for periods 1972-2013. Using spectral analysis the authors compare the cyclical fl uctuations of gross domestic product (GDP) and total tourist arrivals. VAR analysis is also applied in order to detect the relationship between analysed cyclical components in Croatia.

Perivoji Rijeke dubrovačke; Čimbenici identiteta i kriteriji vrjednovanja

Abstract: Na podrucju Rijeke dubrovacke najveca je gustoca ladanjske izgradnje iz doba Dubrovacke Republike. U radu je inventarizirano i vrjednovano 50 perivoja ljetnikovaca nastalih od 14. do kraja 19. stoljeca. Najbrojniji su renesansni perivoji iz 15. i 16. stoljeca. Istražena su njihova kulturno-povijesna, arhitektonsko-graditeljska i prostorno- ambijentalna obilježja te su utvrđeni kriteriji za vrjednovanje. Rezultate istraživanja moguce je primijeniti u obnovi perivoja.
