Abstract: A hot-wire type of thermal diffusion column is used to determine the thermal conductivity of helium in the temperature range 350-1350°K. The description of the apparatus, the theory of the method, and the various corrections to be applied to the apparent conductivity values are discussed briefly. The values for the thermal conductivity λ of helium agree well with those given by the relation λ×105=17201+6764×10−2 T-125×10−6T2. (λ is in cal cm−1 s−1 degk−1 and T is in °K). The present results are compared with the experimental data of other workers as well as with the predictions of the Chapman-Enskog theory and the modified Buckingham exp-six potential. The precision of our data is about ±2%, and our results agree with the theory to within an average absolute deviation of 19%.

TL;DR: In this article, an approximate method, an empirical one, a semi theoretical one, and the procedure due to Lindsay and Bromley are examined for prediction of thermal conductivity of polar-nonpolar gas mixtures.
Abstract: An approximate method, an empirical one, a semi theoretical one, and the procedure due to Lindsay and Bromley are examined for prediction of thermal conductivity of polar-nonpolar gas mixtures. With a modification of the approximate method we find, by analyzing experimental and calculated results of twelve different systems, that prediction of thermal conductivity is possible with an uncertainty of about 2%. This is important because experimental data on such gas systems are rare. The methods also permit computation of thermal conductivity at moderately high temperatures and for multicomponent mixtures.

TL;DR: In this paper, the reactions of zirconium isopropoxide with the Schiff bases derived from salicylaldehyde and hydroxyalkylamines have been studied and derivatives of the type Zr(OPr i ) 2 (L) and Zr[L] 2, (where L is saliylidene-2-hydroxyethylamine or salicyno-n -propylamine) have been isolated.
Abstract: The reactions of zirconium isopropoxide with the Schiff bases derived from salicylaldehyde and hydroxyalkylamines have been studied and derivatives of the type Zr(OPr i ) 2 (L) and Zr(L) 2 , (where L is salicylidene-2-hydroxyethylamine or salicylidene-2-hydroxy- n -propylamine) have been isolated. The interchange reactions of diisopropoxy zirconium Schiff base complexes with phenol, tert. -butanol and ethane 1: 2 diol have also been carried out. The ultraviolet and infrared spectra of some of these derivatives have been recorded and their molecular weights determined ebullio-scopically in benzene.

TL;DR: In this article, a two bulb glass apparatus was used to measure the concentration diffusion coefficient of the binary gas systems He-Ar and Ne-Kr. The coefficients were determined for equimolar mixtures at temperatures between 0°C and 70°C.
Abstract: A two bulb glass apparatus was used to measure the concentration diffusion coefficient of the binary gas systems He-Ar and Ne-Kr. The coefficients were determined for equimolar mixtures at temperatures between 0°C and 70°C. The diffusion was followed as a function of time by withdrawing samples and analyzing them in a specially designed thermal conductivity analyzer with high accuracy. The diffusion coefficients agree with earlier reported experimental values and with those obtained on the basis of the Chapman-Enskog theory in conjunction with the modified Buckingham exp-six and Lennard-Jones (12-6) intermolecular potentials. The smoothed values were used to predict viscosity and thermal conductivity of these mixtures as a function of composition and temperature.

TL;DR: In this paper, thermal conductivity values of D 2 -Xe, D 2-Ne-Kr, D 1 -Ne-Ar and D 2 −Ar-kr-Xe systems, and of the related five pure gases, are reported at several compositions in the temperature range 40° to 90°C.
Abstract: Thermal conductivity values of D 2 -Xe, D 2 -Ne-Kr, D 2 -Ne-Ar and D 2 -Ar-Kr-Xe systems, and of the related five pure gases, are reported at several compositions in the temperature range 40° to 90°C. The rigorous theory is only moderately successful in interpreting the results of the binary system when used in conjunction with Lennard-Jones (12-6) potential. However, the approximate and recently suggested semi-theoretical methods correlate the data of binary, ternary and quaternary mixtures quite well. Certain simpler methods are also employed to compute thermal conductivity and these calculated values are compared with the directly observed ones. The conclusions so drawn are of considerable value in the prediction of multicomponent thermal conductivity of mixtures involving polyatomic gases.

TL;DR: An attempt has been made to approach the intricate problem of the spermatogenesis in order to understand the sequence of certain enzymatic activities in the gerbil testis in which sperMatogenesis is suppressed when one of the testes is lodged inside the abdominal cavity.
Abstract: Active male gerbils were rendered unilaterally cryptorchid and the enzymatic changes were studied after 48, 60 and 100 days. The histochemical observations revealed inhibition of alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, 5-nucleotidase, adenosine-tri-phosphatase and succinic dehydrogenase activities in the germinal elements of the seminiferous tubules. The non-specific esterase and succinic dehydrogenase activities increased in the Leydig cells to certain extent. The sudanophilic lipids increased in the Sertoli cells and the interstitial cells. An attempt has been made to approach the intricate problem of the spermatogenesis in order to understand the sequence of certain enzymatic activities in the gerbil testis in which spermatogenesis is suppressed when one of the testes is lodged inside the abdominal cavity.

Abstract: The rigorous kinetic theory bracket integrals for the Chapman-Cowling third order approximation to the viscosity coefficient of multicomponent gas mixtures are reported. These expressions will be found useful in interpreting the highly accurate viscosity data on multicomponent gas mixtures now possible. Specially for mixtures involving molecules quite different in nature the contribution is comparable with experimental accuracy.

Abstract: Semi-micro methods for the determination of azo and nitroso compounds and quinones with vanadium(II) sulphate have been described. About 100% excess of vanadium(II) sulphate is added in presence of sodium acetate and the excess of vanadium(II) is determined by titrating with iron(III) sulphate in presence of Neutral Red, Phenosafranine or Safranine-T as internal indicator. Results are accurate to less than ± 1%.

Abstract: A rapid amperometric method for the determination of vanadium (V) has been described which involves titration of vanadium (V) as sodium orthovanadate against copper sulphate solution at Ede = − 0.20 V (vs S.C.E.). The accuracy and reproducability of the method is excellent particularly at higher temperature i.e. at 60°C. The method permits the determination of vanadium (V) down to 0.2 mM with an accuracy 1.0%).
