Abstract: In this paper, the characteristic and cause of large area icing accident on power grid is analyzed It is pointed out that the continual serious weather conduces insulator icing, excess icing load, differential icing,which cause tower falling down and wire broken, icing flashover, conductor gallop,network splitting, large area outage and so on In combination with the problem reflected from the destruction of power grid, it is presented that the countermeasures should be taken from ice area division, route selection, icing monitoring and prewarning, emergency operation mode, icing removal method,ice melting technology and device etc for reducing the influence and destruction of icing According to the character of the large area icing accident, the following research content is presented, which contains destruction character of tower, line icing monitoring and prewarning, standard of line design, character of icing flashover, icing removal and melting method ect

Abstract: It is necessary to track the maximum power point(MPP) of the PV array rapidly and accurately and it can increase the output power of photovoltaic array.This article summarizes the methods of Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT),including the Perturb-and-observation Method and Incremental Conductance Method and points out the limitations and notes of those two methods.This paper divides a number of different techniques for MPPT of PV arrays into four groups by the control theory and development process of MPPT,analyses their merits and demerits and compares methods with others.The main aspects of the MPPT techniques to be taken into consideration are highlighted in the subsequent subsection.Finally,some feasible thoughts with new technologies for solving problem are discussed and its study direction in the future is also looked ahead.It is also indicated that MPPT in the single-stage inverter for PV systems has become a hot research area at home and abroad.

Abstract: In the past 20 years,lightning location system is the most widely used lightning detection measurement in the field of lightning engineering technology.In the lightning location technology research,lightning location system independent developing and the lightning detection network construction,it started early,and had good durative in China.Also the detection area covered is great,and the detection data had accumulated for many years.The power system in our country takes the lead in the lightning detection research,and constitutes the national lightning detection network covered mostly area.The development overview and the current situation of national lightning location system and detection network of power system is introduced in this paper.And the lightning detection technology,detection level,and the detection network are introduced in details.The lightning location system has played an important role in the power system,including the fast lightning failure location,lightning accident discrimination,lightning parameters statistics,lightning-withstanding level evaluation and the lightning warning technology.Also the development of the lightning location system and lightning detection network in future is proposed in this paper.

Abstract: In this paper, the structure and operation principle of Voltage Source Converter based High Voltage Direct Current (VSC HVDC) transmission is described. The main technical issues for VSC HVDC are reviewed, including converter topology, characteristics of two level and three level converters, pulse width modulation pattern, control strategy, protection strategy, switching frequency and loss reduction. The potential application fields of VSC HVDC are also discussed, such as power supply to small isolated loads, power supply to islands, power supply to offshore platforms, infeed to city centers, wind farm connection, interconnecting power systems. Several real projects of VSC HVDC are presented to demonstrate their unique application area, including Gotland of Sweden for connecting wind farm in an environmentally friendly way, Tjaereborg of Denmark for optimal exploitation of wind energy, Direct Link of Australia for power trading, Troll A of Norway for supplying power to compressors in an offshore platform. The key problems in developing VSC HVDC technology are summarized, including main circuit related technology, difficulty in connecting IGBTs in series, parameter selection for commutation reactor and DC side capacitor, control system design strategy, protection system configuration, harmonic filtering and grounding system, VSC HVDC loss analysis. Finally, the technology development trend of VSC HVDC and its impact on conventional HVDC and AC transmission is evaluated.
