Abstract: This study assesses possible advantages of open access can bring to the area of Information Science, using bibliometric citation indicators and Altmetric scores to analyze sixteen hybrid scientific journals, filtered by respective Impact Factors and included in the Journal Citation Reports. Data collection was performed using Web of Science, Google Scholar, Altmetric.com and Mendeley. The verification was performed in two periods in order to examine whether open access exerted influence over time. Results indicate that open access boost the number of citations and mentions in social media for the sample of papers drawn from journals under study. Moreover, this boost is greater when authors upon publishing pay the processing charge to guarantee the immediate open access availability of the paper. In conclusion, while open access can boost the number of citations of a paper, the quality of the paper itself drives most citations.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed how a system of economic stimulus and recognition to the research activities in Mexico has impacted the scientific productivity of Higher Education Institutions (hei) using a database with information of 27,667 Mexican researchers who have been benefited from the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (sni) at least for one year among the period 1991-2011 and includes 122,406 articles published by these researchers in isi journals.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze how a system of economic stimulus and recognition to the research activities in Mexico has impacted the scientific productivity of Higher Education Institutions (hei). This analysis uses a database with information of 27,667 Mexican researchers who have been benefited from the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (sni) at least for one year among the period 1991-2011 and includes 122,406 articles published by these researchers in isi journals. In order to determine the quantity and quality of the productivity of hei we considered as units of measurement the publications and citations. The results indicate that only 28% of the hei analyzed is sued one or more publications in the study period. Additionally, our results show that in 10 universities are grouped both the higher quantity of publications and the higher quantity of quotes. Moreover, it is shown that the maximum age of productivity is at 58 years in the case of the female researchers and 57 years for male researchers. Finally, one of the main contributions of this work is that it show that collaboration activities are continuously growing among researchers.

Abstract: This paper offers a bio-bibliographic repertory and historical bibliometric study of works on chess in Spain from the late eighteenth century to the late nineteenth century. The methodology employed entails research and analysis of documentary sources of the period and current library databases mainly in Spain. The subsequent interpretative phase and the bibliometric analysis of four factors (period of publication, place of publication, originality vs. translation and typology) serves to describe each of the chess works published in Spain. Moreover, it also allows contextualization of the works within the social milieu. In this way, the bibliometric study reinforces the interpretative analysis of Spanish chess production.

TL;DR: The aim of this work is to identify, describe and categorize the standards addressing content representation and retrieval, and the continuity and preservation of digital resources, the quality review of systems, business excellence and records management systems.
Abstract: The postmodern Archivology exhibits the influence of standards that guide and regulate file and records management. Nowadays, the technical processes of information and documentation, services management, information centers and records management systems are founded on standards that allow systematic, uniform and effective operations. The aim of this work is to identify, describe and categorize the standards addressing content representation and retrieval, and the continuity and preservation of digital resources, the quality review of systems, business excellence and records management systems. Largely descriptive, this study focuses on identification of these standards and their implementation in Archivology curricula. The modern society requires professionals who are able to work in diverse workplace environments, possessed of the skills needed to implement all manner of operations and processes entailed in information management. As a result, the professional profile of the Archive specialist should match standardized, homogeneous models that include all kinds of practices.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the citations received by the publications of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (ibge) in the period of 2001-2010 under perspective of the theory of diffusion factors.
Abstract: This paper discusses the analysis of the citations received by the publications of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (ibge) in the period of 2001-2010 under perspective of the theory of diffusion factors. Considering that citations represent a way to measure the spreading of scientific ideas, it is presumable that the larger the number of different authors, institutions and countries citing one idea, the larger its diffusion is. Identifies 3,158 documents citing ibge’s scientific output. Out of 1,272 institutions which citing authors are affiliated with, 748 (58.80%) are Brazilian institutions or based in Brazil, while 518 (40.72%) are from other countries. Institutions focused on education lead (47.96%) the amount, followed by RaD (22.88%), and the rest (29.16%) is lying on public sectors. A number of 6,168 (81.3%) from 7,587 citation occurrences happens to be of authors with affiliations with Brazilian institutions, with the rest being distributed between the other South American countries (82.35%), North America (9.71%), Europe (6.93%), and Central America, Asia, Oceania, Africa and Middle East (sum is about 1%). Applying the diffusion factors proposed by Rousseau, Liu a Ye (2012), the Gini Index obtained varies from 0.62 in 2009 and 0.72 in 2001 and 2003, respectively. Concludes that the diffusion factor is satisfactory because there is a large number of authors, institutions and different countries that cite ibge’s publications.

Abstract: The aim of the study is to measure the adoption, by Portuguese municipalities, of 2.0 technologies as part of their digital communication strategy. Therefore, and after making a content analysis of the 308 websites of the country, a Social Web Indicator (SWI) was created which, in addition to offering a vision of its whole, allowed us to identify those elements, whether demographical, economical, geographical, technological or political, affect to a greater extent this adoption. The results indicate that social networks, especially Facebook, are the most widespread element; and that the key factors to implement the 2.0 tools, significantly relate to the parameters of technological development of the locality, as well as its budget and population. These factors point to the coast and, more specifically, to the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon as the geographical sector more highlighted, with regard to the use of Collaborative Web in its e-Government. At an ideological level, however, there are no differences among municipalities ruled by left or right parties in considering the examined functionalities.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors employed a quantitative bibliometric method, applying indicators of gender, scientific output and impact, and analysis of bibliometrics networks of co-authorship.
Abstract: The scientific production of Mexico registered in Web of Science from 1900-2000 in the areas of Exact Sciences and Engineering is analyzed to describe the way in which female researchers are integrated in the development of these fields of study. The paper employs a quantitative bibliometric method, applying indicators of gender, scientific output and impact, and analysis of bibliometric networks of co-authorship. In Mexico, researchers in exact sciences and engineering published their first papers in the first half of the 20th century, but female researchers working in Syntex laboratories did not publish until the 1940s. As more women joined faculties in higher education and research centers in the 60s and 70s, publication by female researchers began to increase accordingly. This growth also appears to be associated with changes in career choice by women. While the contributions of this work represent an advantage for the scientific community itself, they also are useful for organizations that promote gender equity and institutions that integrate female researchers in this field of study.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed an analysis of the impact of the most frequently cited papers published in two Spanish Library and Information Science journals included in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and determined the influence of self-citations on their H index.
Abstract: The number of citations article paper receives serves as an indicator of its impact in the scientific community. This paper performs an analysis of the impact of the most frequently cited papers published in two Spanish Library and Information Science journals included in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and determines the influence of self-citations on their H index. Results show that the papers are cited largely by Latin-American authors and journals with little international impact, whose scant impact, in fact, is almost entirely due to papers written in English included in the journal. The most frequently citing journals for both papers are the Mexican journal Investigacion Bibliotecologica, the Spanish journals, El Profesional de la Informacion (EPI), and Revista Espanola de Documentacion Cientifica (REDOC), and the international journal Scientometrics. The self-citation rate of these journals and authors is very high (40%); and the elimination of self-citations impacts the H-index while yielding a more objective, realistic measures of impact.

Abstract: This article describes the scope and characteristics of the research developed in the state of Puebla, Mexico, whose results have been published in journals indexed in the Web of Science. The analyzed corpus was compiled by the search procedure with the word “puebla” in the organization and address fields, restricted to the period 2008-2012. We observed from the data obtained that the Universidad Autonoma de Puebla and the Instituto Nacional de Astrofisica, Optica y Electronica are the most productive institutions of Puebla. Our focus was on the 102 most cited articles of the period. Scientific production of Puebla institutions focuses on the physical and biomedical sciences and this production derives mostly from international collaborations. The multiauthor articles (at least three authors) are the most cited publications, while the individual research papers have little impact according to their number of citations. Finally, we analyze the differences in impact factor across scientific fields.
