Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the performance of a small zinc/bromine cell using electrolytes prepared from various quaternary ammonium bromides is described, and the results show that such a cell can be used over the temperature range 0-50°C due to crystallization of solid materials from either the polybromide or aqueous phases.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mass producible, low, cost, alkaline, bipolar fuel cell was designed for a future hydrogen economy, and the pre-treatment of carbon materials proved necessary to prolong the life of the electrodes, which resulted in the replacement of the noble metal electrocatalyst of the cathode and reduction in the loading of the anode.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a CoTMPP-coated active carbon catalyst was found to improve the initial polarization characteristics of air electrodes at temperatures between 460 and 810 °C.

26 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the electrochemical deposition and stripping of lithium have been examined using three-electrode cells with a polyethylene oxide-lithium trifluorometha.

25 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a thermodynamic framework has been developed to evaluate the efficiencies of alkaline battery systems for electrolyte (MOH) concentrations from 1 to 8, and the voltage efficiencies were found to be between 90 and 100%.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the dependence of a battery's capacity upon the rate of discharge (Peukert's law) was interpreted as the consequence of the fractality of the cell electro t001.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors deduced the equations for mass transport during the formation of the lead-acid battery positive and negative plates, and showed that both the amount of material transferred between the reaction layer and the bulk of the electrolyte, and also the material flow direction depends on the paste composition and the formation current density.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The Canadian Astronautics Limited (CAL) developed a system to autonomously manage, and thus prolong the life of, secondary storage batteries for the space vehicle application using nickel cadmium batteries, but is expected to be able to enhance the life and performance of any rechargeable electrochemical couple as mentioned in this paper.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the impedance measurements on large, 25 A h, spiral-wound, fully sealed lead/acid cells in the frequency range 60 kHz - 1 mHz are discussed.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Yellow β-PbO (massicot) and plattnerite have been investigated as cathode materials in organic electrolyte lithium cells in this article, and they have been shown to be suitable for battery cells.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a rechargeable lithium molybdenum disulfide battery which has a number of superior performance characteristics including a high energy density, a high power density, and a long charge retention time was developed.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the heat dissipation problem occurring in the lithium thionyl chloride cells discharged at relatively high rates under normal discharge conditions, and they proposed a transient model based on the lumped heat capacity concept to predict the time-dependent cell temperature at different discharge rates.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the characterization studies for the cells should be conducted prior to the start of a design of a battery pack, and the approach for fabricating a battery battery pack might vary with cell size.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, die Kinetik der Bleioxydation bei der Reifung wurde durch chemische Freibleibestimmung bzw. Gasvolumetrie des Sauerstoffverbrauchs untersucht.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the cathodic evolution of hydrogen from a series of lead-tin alloys (below 1.7% Sn) was studied with a range of concentrations of aqueous sulphuri.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, Li-TiS2, Li-MoS3, and Li-V6O13 systems were examined in detail, and the results of these studies will provide guidelines for prioritizing the research efforts and guiding the selection of optimized materials.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In Japan, advanced batteries, such as Na-S, Zn-Cl 2, Zn -Br 2, and Cr-Fe redox-flow battery, aiming for utility load-level were introduced.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, two battery module configurations were developed which, in addition to integrating cylindrical nickel hydrogen (NiH2) cells into batteries, provide advances in the means of mounting, monitoring and thermal control of these cells.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Forty-two 50 A h aerospace nickel cells were delivered to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) by General Electric (GE) in February, 1985, for the first time as discussed by the authors.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Optimized designs for advanced lead-acid, load-leveling batteries were selected in a limited time period by means of an accelerated life cycle test as mentioned in this paper, where the battery was selected based on a limited set of parameters.

Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the incorporation of nickel-hydrogen technology for low-Earth-orbit spacecraft applications requires the establishment of a data base, and an extensive test program was established to provide this data base.
