TL;DR: In this article, a steady flow test rig was used to analyze the interference of intake flow through two inlet ports with different combinations and orientations of directed and helical intake ports.
Abstract: Flow coefficients and swirl ratios for different combinations and orientations of directed and helical intake ports were tested on a steady flow test rigTwo concepts respectively called loss rate of flow coefficient and loss rate of angular momentum were presented to analyze the interference of intake flow through two inlet portsExperimental results show that greater interference of intake flow will be occurred when the directed intake port is upstream positioned, and the swirl ratio will be seriously affected by orientations of the directed portWhen the helical intake port is upstream, interference of intake flow and effects of orientation of the helical port on swirl ratio will be less

TL;DR: In this paper, the status and developments of crankshaft strength analysis for internal combustion engines in recent years are presented from both aspects of calculation (including stress and fatigue strength calculation) and experiment.
Abstract: Crankshaft strength is one of important aspects to assure reliable operation of internal combustion engines. In this paper, the status and developments of crankshaft strength analysis for internal combustion engines in recent years are presented from both aspects of calculation (including stress and fatigue strength calculation) and experiment. On stress calculation the finite element method that is used widely today is mainly presented. The problems in researching on processing of boundary condition in calculation, vibration effect and theory and method of fatigue strength calculation are discussed and put forward.

Abstract: In order to improve thermal efficiency of gasoline engines, a new combustion mode named homogeneous charge induced ignition (HCII) was examined The combustion characteristics of HCII were investigated through combustion visualization and engine performance's study The results show that the thermal efficiency of HCII is higher than that of homogeneous charge gasoline engine and reaches the level of diesel engine Smoke-free combustion can be realised when the gasoline/diesel ratio reaches 05 Moreover, the ignition delay increases and the ignition position is found moving from the center towards the periphery of the combustion chamber with the increase of gasoline/diesel ratio

TL;DR: In this paper, a microcomputer controlled atmosphere-simulating system for internal-combustion engine was set up and used to study engine power output, fuel economy, exhaust emissions versus the sea altitude in a turbocharged intercooling diesel engine.
Abstract: A microcomputer controlled atmosphere-simulating system for internal-combustion engine was set up and used to study engine power output, fuel economy, exhaust emissions versus the sea altitude in a turbocharged inter-cooling diesel engine. The result shows that, with the increase of altitude, the atmospheric pressure will decrease, resulting in the reduction of cylinder pressure and amount of air introduced. These will reduce engine power output and increase fuel consumption, and iso-fuel consumption range becomes narrow. The concentrations of the exhaust CO,NO_x, HC and PM will increase, and these concentrations versus altitudes show difference at different engine speeds and loads.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the combustion characteristics of a direct injection natural gas engine using a rapid compression machine and compared with that of homogeneous combustion, and found that the premixed controlled statified charge combustion has the advantage of low emission and fast burning rate.
Abstract: Investigation of combustion characteristics of direct injection natural gas engine is carried out using a rapid compression machine.Combustion characteristics of three types of injection modes are analyzed and compared with that of homogeneous combustion. The results show that direct injection natural gas combustion has higher value of pressure rise due to combustion than that of homogeneous mixture.Short flame development and rapid burining period is found in the case of fuel injection for the wide range of equivalence ratio. No great difference in the rate of heat release and the rate of pressure rise is also found for different fuel injection modes. The heat release rate and the rate of pressure rise in the case of fuel injection combustion has the high value and finishes early compared with that of the homogeneous mixture combustion. The study found that flame development and rapid burning period would decrease with the shortening of the time interval between the fuel injection and the ignition start.Optimization of the time interval between the fuel injection and ignition start is a key important parameter for the direct injection natural gas engine. The study shows that the combustion of direct injection natural gas is the premixed controlled statified charge combustion. The premixed controlled stratified charge combustion has the advantage of low emission and fast burning rate.
