Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a customer-centric study is presented to validate a scale for measuring the problems associated with the use of self-service banking technologies and their effect on customer satisfaction.
Abstract: The use of IT in the banking sector has contributed to the emergence of more flexible and user-friendly self-service banking technologies (SSBT) to address the rapid and changing needs of banking customers. The emergence of SSBT such as ATM, internet banking (IB) and mobile banking (MB) ushered the concept of anytime and anywhere banking. IB uses the Internet to deliver banking services to customers irrespective of their geographical location. The present study is a customer-centric study to validate a scale for measuring the problems associated with the use of IB and their effect on customer satisfaction. The study identified four problems, namely, customer support problems, service problems, web-based problems and password problems. Customer support problems and web-based problems have significant negative effect on customer satisfaction and hence these hinder customer satisfaction.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the demographic profile of the Indian soldiers and analyzed the differences in opinions of soldiers according to six demographic variables, namely, designation, income, qualification, age, length of service and marital status.
Abstract: The present study examines the demographic profile of the Indian soldiers and analyzes the differences in opinions of soldiers according to six demographic variables, namely, designation, income, qualification, age, length of service and marital status. A sample of 415 soldiers of the Indian army selected through stratified random sampling was surveyed using structured schedules. ANOVA and post-hoc tests were applied to analyze the data. The findings of the study suggest significant differences on the basis of designation, age, service tenure and marital status mainly with regard to three occupational stressors, namely, ineffective leadership style, lack of control at work and role ambiguity. Furthermore, income and qualification were the only demographic variables showing significant and insignificant differences, respectively, for all occupational stressors. A comparison of mean scores of demographic characteristics revealed that single soldiers belonging to lower ranks (sepoys and naiks) and younger age group (20-30 years) having service tenure of less than 10 years suffer highest from occupational stress in the army. Additionally, inadequate training and workload were more stress creating factors for higher ranks (such as JCOs) and soldiers with higher length of service, in contrast to other groups. The study also highlights practical recommendations to curtail stress in the Indian army. Language: en

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of microfinance institutions of India (MFI) based on their age has been analyzed using Life Cycle Approach method, three major classes of MFIs: the old, the mature and the young MFIs are identified.
Abstract: This study focuses on the performance of Microfinance Institutions of India (MFI) based on their age. Using Life Cycle Approach method, three major classes of MFIs: the old, the mature and the young MFIs are identified. The growth and financial performance of a sample of 40 Indian MFIs were examined. It is a general notion of the industry that the older companies with bigger in size and scale used to financially perform better than the new comers. But in case of microfinance institutions, the scenario was found to be different. It was found that the young MFIs of India are creating better quality asset and growing at a faster rate as compared to the old and the mature MFIs. On average, the portfolio of the young Turks has grown three to five times between 2008 and 2010, with Equitas and Sahayata showing extremely high portfolio growth of 13 times and 16 times, respectively. The portfolio at risk (PAR) > 30 days of young MFIs was also very low and was in the range of 1–1.2 per cent during the year 2008–201...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the psychometric properties of MVS-c for late adolescents and young adults and tried to explore differences for three constructs across gender and pocket money.
Abstract: The present study contributes to the existing literature by examining the psychometric properties of Material Value Scale (MVS-c) for late adolescents and young adults. In addition to this, the study tries to explore differences for three constructs of MVS-c across gender and pocket money. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was carried out on the responses of 714 late adolescents/young adults enrolled in classes ranging from matriculation (X) to postgraduation in schools and colleges of Punjab (India). The results provide support for the three original constructs—material success, material happiness and material centrality—but with 16 items instead of a priori 18 items. Moreover, Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) results reflect significant differences amongst the constructs of MVS-c across gender and pocket money of late adolescents/young adults. The findings of the study also point to directions for future researchers.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify factors contributing to the success of brand extension of consumer packaged goods (CPGs) in India and apply hierarchical regression to model the variables considered as major determinants for brand extension evaluation.
Abstract: Increasing costs involved in building new brands motivate marketers to adopt an alternate route for new product introductions in the form of brand extensions. While extensive research exists for understanding the intricacies of brand extensions in the Western context, there is limited understanding about its utility in the context of developing countries such as India. This study aims to identify factors contributing to the success of brand extension of Consumer Packaged Goods (CPGs) in India. Primary data collection was performed with 837 participants constituting management students of a renowned university in India. Hierarchical regression is applied to model the variables considered as major determinants for brand extension evaluation. This study is first of its kind in India explaining the inter-relationships among these variables with the help of residual centring technique for creating interaction terms leading to a better understanding of consumers’ evaluation of brand extensions. Interesting resu...

TL;DR: In this article, a model was developed for strategic planning with the organizational variables of management support (MS), flexibility importance (FI), complexity (CX) and organizational climate risk (OCR).
Abstract: The aim of this research study was to expound the factors of strategic planning (SP). Subsequently, in this research study, a model was developed for SP with the organizational variables of management support (MS), flexibility importance (FI), complexity (CX) and organizational climate risk (OCR). In this research study, a structured survey questionnaire was administered on 408 managers for data collection from both public and private sector firms in India. SPSS 20 and AMOS 18 were used for structural equation modelling for data analysis. The research results indicated that the exogenous variables were MS and FI, while the intervening variables were CX and OCR, and SP was the endogenous variable. The research results also indicated that there was significant positive relationship between variables MS and OCR, MS and CX, FI and CX, FI and OCR, OCR and CX, CX and SP and finally OCR and SP. This research was one of the first research studies expounding a model on SP with the exogenous variables of MS and FI ...
