Responses of soybean to water stress and supplemental irrigation in upper Indo-Gangetic plain: Field experiment and modeling approach

TL;DR: In this article, the impacts of dry spells in soybean and identified better management of water resources under varying water-scarce conditions were examined using field experiments and modeling studies, and the results showed that plants subjected to water stress during flowering and vegetative growth stages had significantly lower yields and total dry matter.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantifying long-term responses of crop yield and nitrate leaching in an intensive farmland using agro-eco-environmental model.

TL;DR: Simulation results showed that application rates of irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer have couple effects on crop yields and nitrogen leaching of root zone and Irrigation bigger than 200mm could shorten the response time of nitrate leaching in deeper soil layer in different irrigation treatment.

A Dynamic Decision-Making Tool for Calculating the Optimal Rates of N Application for 40 Annual Crops While Minimising the Residual Level of Mineral N at Harvest

TL;DR: The AzoFert® decision support system for farmers and extension services is presented, capable of providing N recommendations at the field scale for 40 main field crops and easily adaptable to new crops and cropping systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adaptive decision-making under conditions of uncertainty: the case of farming in the Volta delta, Ghana

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the socio-ecological conditions of farmers in Ghana's Volta delta and found that they are increasingly affected by variability in rainfall conditions and changes in land-use patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI

Factors driving growers' selection and implementation of an apple crop protection strategy at the farm level

TL;DR: Extending the range of alternatives to pesticides and implementing innovative advice methodologies could be levers to reduce pesticide use.

Theory Building From Cases: Opportunities And Challenges

TL;DR: The research strategy of theory building from cases, particularly multiple cases, involves using one or more cases to create theoretical constructs, propositions, and/or midrange theory from case-based, empirical evidence.

Modelling decision-making processes for annual crop management

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a conceptual model consisting of a set of descriptive variables and decision-making rules to describe the intended timing of cropping operations, one determines the possible modes of operation and one groups the fields sown to wheat into sets so that different management modes can be applied to each set.

Designing crop management systems by simulation

TL;DR: To help agricultural advisors to propose innovative crop management systems, simulation models can be a complementary tool to field experiments and prototyping by developing specific decision models linked with biophysical models.
