A Simple Approach for Specifying Velocity Inflow Boundary Conditions in Simulations of Turbulent Opposed-Jet Flows

TL;DR: In this article, a new methodology is developed to specify inflow boundary conditions for the velocity field at the nozzle exit planes in turbulent counterflow simulations, where a single large-eddy simulation (LES) is performed in a large domain that spans the region between the TGPs of the nozzles, and the time series of the velocity fields at the velocity exit planes are recorded.

Contrôle de la traînée de frottement d'une couche limite turbulente au moyen de revêtements rainurés de type riblets

TL;DR: In this article, a priori prometteur des riblets tridimensionnels is explored, and a methode for leur simulation numerique is mise au point, which permits notamment quantifier les performances de reduction de trainee atteignables.

Use of digitally filtered inflow conditions for LES of flows over backward facing steps

TL;DR: In this article, large eddy simulations of subsonic and supersonic boundary layers separating at backward facing steps are performed for validating a hybrid flow solver and testing the digital filtering approach for specifying the inflow turbulence.

The theory of homogeneous turbulence

TL;DR: In this article, the kinematics of the field of homogeneous turbulence and the universal equilibrium theory of decay of the energy-containing eddies are discussed. But the authors focus on the dynamics of decay and not on the probability distribution of u(x).
Journal ArticleDOI

Direct numerical simulation of free-surface and interfacial flow

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider the formation of droplet clouds or sprays that subsequently burn in combustion chambers, which is caused by interfacial instabilities, such as the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability.

Direct simulation of a turbulent boundary layer up to R sub theta = 1410

TL;DR: In this paper, the turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate, with zero pressure gradient, is simulated numerically at four stations between R sub theta = 225 and R sub tta = 1410.

DIRECT NUMERICAL SIMULATION: A Tool in Turbulence Research

TL;DR: In this article, direct numerical simulation (DNS) of turbulent flows has been reviewed and the complementary nature of experiments and computations in turbulence research has been illustrated, as well as how DNS has impacted turbulence modeling and provided further insight into the structure of turbulent boundary layers.
