A Hierarchical Spatio-Temporal Markov Model for Improved Flood Mapping Using Multi-Temporal X-Band SAR Data

TL;DR: Experiments performed on a bi-temporal TerraSAR-X ScanSAR data-set from the Caprivi region of Namibia during flooding in 2009 and 2010 confirm the effectiveness of integrating hierarchical as well as spatio-tem temporal context into the labeling process, and of adapting the models to irregular graph structures.
Journal ArticleDOI

A biomedical system based on hidden Markov model for diagnosis of the heart valve diseases

TL;DR: The present study shows that proper selection of the HMMs initial parameter values according to FCM/K-means algorithms improves the recognition rate of the proposed system which was also compared to the authors' previous study named ANN.
Journal ArticleDOI

Latent Markov model for longitudinal binary data: An application to the performance evaluation of nursing homes

TL;DR: It is illustrated how a latent Markov model with covariates may effectively be used for the analysis of data collected in this way, and how the estimates of these effects may be used to construct a set of scores which allows us to rank nursing homes in terms of their efficacy in takingcare of the health conditions of their patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

HMMRATAC: a Hidden Markov ModeleR for ATAC-seq.

TL;DR: It is found that single-end sequenced or size-selected ATAC-seq datasets result in a loss of sensitivity compared to paired-end datasets without size-selection, and it is shown that HMMRATAC outperforms the popular peak-calling algorithms on published human ATAC -seq datasets.

An inequality with applications to statistical estimation for probabilistic functions of Markov processes and to a model for ecology

TL;DR: In this paper, a polynomial with nonnegative coefficients homogeneous of degree d in its variables is shown to be polynomially homogeneous unless 3(3(x))>P(x), where 3(x)=x.

The Gamma Function

TL;DR: The Gamma function as discussed by the authors is a generalized factorial function that can be used to estimate the probability distribution of a probability distribution, and it has been used in many applications, e.g., as part of probability distributions.
