TLDR
In this article, the von Mises yield criterion is adopted instead of the Tresca yield criterion for crack tip plasticity, and the modified model predicts that cyclic deformation behaviors at a crack tip are dependent not only on the amplitude of load fluctuations but also on the mean level at which the load is being cycled, revealing that at least two parameters are necessitated if the rate of fatigue crack propagation is to be predicted more accurately.

Low cycle fatigue crack growth and life prediction of short-fibre reinforced aluminium matrix composites

TL;DR: In this paper, a model is developed to predict the low cycle fatigue crack growth and life of short-fibre reinforced aluminium-matrix composites based on the assumption that there is a fatigue-damaged zone ahead of the crack tip in which the local cyclic stress level approaches the ultimate tensile strength of the composite and the actual degradation process of composite.
