TLDR
In this paper, a new edge detector which is better than the gradient-type edge detectors used so far is presented, where the edge detector is appended to an image, a picture is obtained consisting of edge points.

Automatic detection of rib borders in chest radiographs

TL;DR: An algorithm for detection of posterior rib borders in chest radiographs is presented and the algorithm first determines the thoracic cage boundary to restrict the area of search for the ribs, then finds approximate rib borders using a knowledge-based Hough transform and localizes the ribs using an active contour model.

Application of digital image analysis in dental radiography for the description of periapical bone lesions: a preliminary study

TL;DR: The use of digital image analysis in dental radiography for the description of periapical bone lesions is described to circumvents the problem of observer variability and can eventually be used for the quantitative assessment of bone lesions.
