TLDR
The requirements for conducting successful usability tests, particularly on traveler information and traffic management systems, are reviewed; a general approach for conducting such tests is offered; and a case study of usability tests on an interactive traveler information system is presented.
Abstract
This paper reviews the requirements for conducting successful usability tests, particularly on traveler information and traffic management systems; offers a general approach for conducting such tests; and presents a case study of usability tests on an interactive traveler information system.

A simple procedure for the assessment of acceptance of advanced transport telematics

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a tool for studying acceptance of new technological equipment that is presented here has a major advantage compared with many other studies in that esoteric knowledge of scaling techniques is not required.

Dynamic decision and adjustment processes in commuter behavior under real-time information

TL;DR: Empirical results indicate that real-time information and time-dependent network conditions are strong determinants of trip-maker behavior in a commuting context, and user behavior models developed here can be integrated with dynamic network traffic assignment models to obtain more accurate system performance modeling capabilities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Route choice behaviour and travel information in a congested network: Static and dynamic recursive models

TL;DR: This paper estimates recursive models using data from an innovative data collection effort consisting of route choice observation data from GPS trackers, travel diaries and link travel times on the overall network to investigate route choice behaviour.

Dynamic Route Choice Modelling of the Effects of Travel Information using RP Data

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the role of travel information on route choice behavior and revealed preference data collected in a real congested network in order to minimize problems that arise from congestion, such as delays, uncertainty and environmental effects.

Designing the User Interface: Strategies for Effective Human-Computer Interaction

TL;DR: The Sixth Edition of Designing the User Interface provides a comprehensive, authoritative, and up-to-date introduction to the dynamic field of human-computer interaction and user experience (UX) design.
Journal ArticleDOI

Designing for usability: key principles and what designers think

TL;DR: Data is presented which shows that the design principles of system design are not always intuitive to designers and the arguments which designers often offer for not using these principles are identified.

Usability Engineering: Our Experience and Evolution

TL;DR: This chapter discusses the user's experience and evolution of usability engineering, which provides operationally defined criteria so that usability objectives can be used to drive an efficient and productive engineering effort.

Surveying commuter behavior: designing motorist information systems

TL;DR: A survey conducted by University of Washington investigators as part of a project sponsored by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration under the State's Freeway Arterial Management Effort (FAME) as discussed by the authors showed that drivers are more likely to change their routes from work than from home, to divert to known routes sooner than to unknown routes, and to be influenced by traffic information, congestion, and time of day.

A selected bibliography: a beginner's guide to usability testing

TL;DR: This briefly annotated bibliography addresses needs by identifying recent, reasonably accessible articles and books organized in the following categories: general introduction to usability testing; usability testing of documentation; the human-machine interface; and textbooks on research design.
