A theory of the terrestrial kilometric radiation

Abstract
During magnetospheric substorms, electrons with energies of about 1 keV are injected from the plasma-sheet region into the auroral region. A fraction of these energetic electrons can precipitate into the upper atmosphere, and the rest are reflected because of the mirror effect of the convergent geomagnetic field. It is found that these reflected electrons can result in the amplification of electromagnetic waves via a relativistic normal cyclotron resonance. This process may explain the recently discovered terrestrial kilometric radiation.

Control factor of solar cycle variation of auroral kilometric radiation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the variations of F+*.1 and solar wind dynamic pressure with upflowing ion (UFI) events and ambient plasma density, which are associated with generation conditions of AKR, and showed that the anticorrelation between discrete aurora and solar activities was not recognized through the studies on secular variations of auroral phenomena mainly based on old auroral records obtained in mid-latitude regions.
