TLDR
In this paper, a correspondence between the Westergaard stress function for crack problems and a newly-introduced Westergaard function for rigid line inclusion problems has been shown, and a scheme is presented to modify these rigid-inclusion solutions to account approximately for non-zero compliance of real fibers in a composite material.

Acoustic transmission through orthotropic multilayered plates, part I: Plate vibration modes

TL;DR: In this article, a variational displacement formulation for multilayered plates is used to verify the continuity of displacements and shear stresses at the interfaces of a simply supported plate, and the equations of motion and natural boundary conditions remain unchanged in form regardless of the number of layers.

On the Elastic Fields of an Elliptical Inhomogeneity under Plane Deformation

TL;DR: In this paper, a generalized and unified approach is presented for the two-dimensional plane problem of an elliptical inhomogeneity in an isotropic elastic medium, based upon the use of conformal mapping and Laurent series expansion of Muskhelishvili's complex potentials.

Stress analysis of a kinked crack initiating from a rigid line inclusion. Part 1: Formulation☆

TL;DR: In this article, the problem of a kinked crack initiated from the tip of a rigid line inclusion is analyzed as a mixed boudary value problem and the stress distribution, stress intensity factors, singularity at the inclusion tip, and the resultant moment on the rigid line included in the inclusion are investigated.

Three-dimensional asymptotic stress field in the vicinity of the circumference of a penny shaped discontinuity

TL;DR: In this paper, an eigenfunction expansion method is presented to obtain three-dimensional asymptotic stress fields in the vicinity of the front of a penny shaped discontinuity, e.g., crack, anticrack, etc., subjected to the far-field torsion (mode III), extension/bending (mode I) and sliding shear/twisting (mode II) loadings.

Numerical analysis of doubly periodic array of cracks/rigid-line inclusions in an infinite isotropic medium using the boundary integral equation method

TL;DR: In this paper, the boundary integral equation approach is used to study the doubly periodic array of cracks/rigid-line inclusions in an infinite isotropic plane medium.

The elasticity and strength of paper and other fibrous materials

TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of the effect of orientation of the fibres on the stiffness and strength of paper and other fibrous materials is made, and the results of the analysis are applied to certain samples of resin bonded fibrous filled materials and moderately good agreement with experimental results is found.

A photoelastic study of the shear stresses associated with the transfer of stress during fibre reinforcement

TL;DR: In this paper, a two-dimensional photoelastic model was used to confirm the existence of high shear stresses near the fiber ends, which peak to values greater than those predicted by theory.
