Acute toxicity of tributyltin to selected Chesapeake Bay fish and invertebrates

TLDR
Concentrations of TBT exceeding the LC 50 values reported for both copepod species have been found in the water column from marinas in northern Chesapeake Bay.

Ecotoxicology of organotin compounds.

TL;DR: The aquatic ecotoxicology of organotins is reviewed based on a multidisciplinary approach involving environmental chemical, toxicological, and ecological aspects, and the influence of speciation for bioavailability, basic modes of toxic action, and aquatic toxicity are discussed.

Environmental levels, toxicity and human exposure to tributyltin (TBT)-contaminated marine environment. A review

TL;DR: A review of the state of the science regarding Tributyltin is presented in this paper, with special attention paid to the environmental levels, toxicity, and human exposure. But, data concerning TBT levels in foodstuffs are scarce, and therefore, investigations on experimental toxicity, dietary intake, potential human health effects and development of new sustainable technologies to remove TBT compounds are clearly necessary.

The copepod Tigriopus: a promising marine model organism for ecotoxicology and environmental genomics.

TL;DR: The combination of uses as a whole-animal bioassay and gene expression studies indicate that Tigriopus may serve as an excellent tool to evaluate the impacts of marine pollution throughout the coastal region.

Butyltins in muscle and liver of fish collected from certain Asian and Oceanian countries.

TL;DR: It is tentatively suggested that intake of butyltins by humans via consumption of fish in these countries was < 25% of the tolerable daily intake of 250 ng kg bw(-1) day(-1), the first study reporting onbutyltin pollution in developing Asian countries.

The decline of the gastropod Nucella lapillus around south-west England: evidence for the effect of tributyltin from antifouling paints

TL;DR: The incidence of ‘imposex’, the induction of male sex characters in the female, is widespread, that all populations are affected to some degree and that the phenomenon is most prevalent along the south (Channel) coast.

Acute and Sublethal Effects of Organotin Compounds on Aquatic Biota: An Interpretative Literature Evaluation

TL;DR: This review collected, synthesize, and interpret acute and sublethal organotin toxicity data in both freshwater and estuarine-marine ecosystems to facilitate interpretation of toxicity data and identify deficiencies in available data to recommend areas of future research for assessing ecological effects of organotin compounds in aquatic systems.

- 01 Jan 1979 -
TL;DR: The toxicity of 78 chemicals and pesticide formulations against the bleak, Alburnus alburnus (Pisces) and the harpacticoid Nitocra spinipes has been tested.
