Collocation in finite element analysis of constrained problems

TL;DR: In this paper, the concept of three-field displacement finite element formulations of constrained problems is explored, and the approach studied uses collocation within the element domain to enforce the constraint.
Journal ArticleDOI

A differential transformer-based force sensor utilizing a magnetic fluid core

TL;DR: In this article, a force sensor utilizing a transformer concept with a ferrofluid core was developed, which was characterized by the relationship between the forces applied to the membrane and the output voltage readings across the secondary coil in loading and unloading cycles.
Journal ArticleDOI

A modular cantilever fixture and test methodology for thermoplastics: An alternative bending load case for validation of CAE material models

TL;DR: In this paper, a cantilever bending test is proposed to alleviate several challenges associated with CAE validation using 3-point flexure, and the equivalence of the bending kinematics during cantilevers and flexure is assessed through investigation of stress-strain information.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deterministic Excitation Forces for Simulation and Identification of Nonlinear Hysteretic SDOF Systems

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated how to design deterministic excitation forces in studying nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom systems, especially those with rate and path dependency and strength and stiffness degradation, and a series of numerical exercises were carried out to show that these forces can be designed for sufficient forcing functions to study the complex nonlinear hysteresis.

Stiffness and energy dissipation of Oval Leaf Spring mounts under unidirectional line loading

TL;DR: In this paper, the linear static stiffness of Oval Leaf Spring (OLS) mounts was analyzed under line loading in the vertical and lateral directions, and it was shown that the stiffness is more sensitive to the radius compared to the other geometric properties of the spring.
