Afferents to the rat caudoputamen studied with horseradish peroxidase. An evaluation of a retrograde neuroanatomical research method

TLDR
The evidence presented suggests first, that the degree of localization at the injection site is compatible with approaching some problems in neuroanatomy; second, that anterograde transport of the marker protein does not appear to confound the interpretation of retrogradely labeled cell bodies; third, that many, though not all, afferent cell populations can be identified.

Anatomical evidence of direct projections from the nucleus of the solitary tract to the hypothalamus, amygdala, and other forebrain structures in the rat

TL;DR: Observations indicate for the first time the existence of relatively direct conduction lines by which interoceptive information might be conveyed to limbic forebrain structures.

Catecholamine innervation of the basal forebrain. IV. Topography of the dopamine projection to the basal forebrain and neostriatum.

TL;DR: The topography of the DA neuron projection on the basal forebrain and neostriatum is organized in three planes, dorsal‐ventral, medial‐lateral and anterior‐posterior, consistent with the view that the DA neurons of the SN‐VTA complex form a single nuclear group with a highly topographically organized projection innervating not only deep nuclei of the telencephalon but allocortical structures as well.

Intracortical connectivity of architectonic fields in the somatic sensory, motor and parietal cortex of monkeys

TL;DR: Anterograde and retrograde transport methods were used to study the corticocortical connectivity of areas 3a, 3b, 1, 2, 5, 4 and 6 of the monkey cerebral cortex, finding possible multiple representations of the body surface in the component fields of the first somatic sensory area (SI).

The early stages of absorption of injected horseradish peroxidase in the proximal tubules of mouse kidney: ultrastructural cytochemistry by a new technique.

TL;DR: The early stages of absorption of intravenously injected horseradish peroxidase in proximal tubules of mouse kidney were studied with a new ultrastructural cytochemical technique, which gives sharp localization and is sensitive to protein transport.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stereotaxic mapping of the monoamine pathways in the rat brain.

TL;DR: The ascending monoamine pathways in the rat brain are demonstrated by the pile up of fluorescent material occurring in the axons after various types of lesions, indicating a unique role for the locus coeruleus in influencing the activity of the entire brain.
Journal ArticleDOI

Junctions between intimately apposed cell membranes in the vertebrate brain

TL;DR: Endothelial and epithelial tight junctions occlude the interspaces between blood and parenchyma or cerebral ventricles, thereby constituting a structural basis for the blood-brain and blood-cerebrospinal fluid barriers.
