Crosslinking of polyethylene for low wear using radiation and thermal treatments
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present methods for enhancing the wear-resistance of polymers, the resulting polymers and in vivo implants made from such polymers using irradiated, gamma radiation, and thermally treated polymers.

Yield and transient effects during the plastic deformation of solid polymers
C. G'Sell,John J. Jonas +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a quantitative model is proposed, based on the dynamics of plastic waves which accounts for the transition from "normal" to "inverse" transient behaviour with increasing strain, and also explains the opposite effects of stress relaxation and specimen unloading on the restraining transients.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of molecular networks and thermally activated processes in the deformation behavior of polymers
TL;DR: In this paper, the deformation behavior of three polymers, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), and linear polyethylenes (LPE), is considered in terms of two key factors, the stretching of a molecular network and the influence of thermally activated processes.

Thermal Shrinkage Of Oriented Polymers
M. Trznadel,M. Kryszewski +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the rate and spatial reach of molecular motions depend to a great extent on the temperature and define the number of thermal transitions observed in polymers.

Shrinkage, shrinkage force and the structure of ultra high modulus polyethylenes
G. Capaccio,I. M. Ward +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the shrinkage and shrinkage force on drawn polyethylenes over a wide range of temperatures was investigated. But the shrinkages were not observed on heating even the most highly drawn samples above the melting range, and at lower temperatures the shrinking force was less than that of low draw material.

The influence of temperature on the plastic deformation of polyethylene
R. Corneliussen,Anton Peterlin +1 more
TL;DR: The thermal history of the starting material, quenched, slowly cooled, or annealed, affects the draw behavior as mentioned in this paper, and the long period is independent of the physical conditions of the initial sample.
