Intentional learning agent architecture

TL;DR: An architecture for an intentional learning agent is presented, an extension of the BDI architecture in which the learning process is explicitly described as plans, which enables domain experts to specify learning processes and strategies explicitly, while allowing the agent to benefit from procedural domain knowledge expressed in plans.

Complexity and the notion of system of systems: Part (II): defining the notion of system of systems

TL;DR: A new abstract definition of the notion of SoS is presented, empowered by the concept of autonomy and participation in tasks usually linked to games, a development of the Composite System notion where now the subsystems act as autonomous intelligent agents in a multi-agent system that is defined by a central task and possibly a game.

MILOS: Infraestrutura de Agentes para Suporte a Objetos de Aprendizagem OBAA

TL;DR: The MILOS project as discussed by the authors is parte of a set of premissas inovadoras, combinando de forma integrada as tecnologias de agentes and ontologias for suportar os requisitos de adaptabilidade, interoperabilidades e acessibilidade previstos no OBAA.

Using norms to control open multi-agent systems

TL;DR: This thesis has developed norm-based mechanisms for open multi-agent systems at two levels: at agent level, the problem of defining norm-autonomous agents that deliberate about norms within uncertain environments is addressed; and at multi- agent system level, a distributed architecture for enforcing norms is proposed.

Statistical physics of social dynamics

TL;DR: In this article, a wide list of topics ranging from opinion and cultural and language dynamics to crowd behavior, hierarchy formation, human dynamics, and social spreading are reviewed and connections between these problems and other, more traditional, topics of statistical physics are highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI

Developing multiagent systems: The Gaia methodology

TL;DR: It is argued that a multiagent system can naturally be viewed and architected as a computational organization, and the appropriate organizational abstractions that are central to the analysis and design of such systems are identified.

Programming Multi-Agent Systems in AgentSpeak using Jason (Wiley Series in Agent Technology)

TL;DR: The Jason Agent Programming Language as discussed by the authors is a programming language based on the BDI Agent Model that allows to define simulated environments and communicate with multiple agents in a BDI agent language.
Book ChapterDOI

Computational Intelligence: An Introduction

TL;DR: The general public becomes rapidly jaded with such ‘bold predictions’ that fail to live up to their original hype, and which ultimately render the zealots’ promises as counter-productive.
Journal ArticleDOI

Agent-based systems for manufacturing

TL;DR: The evolution of agent technologies and manufacturing will probably proceed hand in hand and the former can receive real challenges from the latter, which will have more and more benefits in applying agent technologies, presumably together with well-established or emerging approaches of other disciplines.
