Chaos in Discrete Structured Population Models
Eduardo Liz,Alfonso Ruiz-Herrera +1 more
TL;DR: This work proves analytically the existence of chaotic dynamics in some classical discrete-time age-structured population models and estimates the sensitive dependence on the initial conditions, regions of initial data with chaotic behavior, and explicit ranges of parameters for which the considered models display chaos.

Economics of Naturally Regenerating, Heterogeneous Forests
TL;DR: In this paper, an economic model for naturally regenerating, heterogeneous forests is specified to yield both clear-cuts and continuous cover forestry endogenously, and necessary and sufficient conditions for the local and global optimality of these two forest management types are obtained.

Towards developing a general framework for modelling vertical migration in zooplankton.
Andrew Morozov,O. A. Kuzenkov +1 more
TL;DR: This work argues that the optimal strategy of DVM can be unambiguously obtained as an outcome of selection in the underlying equations of genotype/traits frequency dynamics and shows that the infinite dimensional trait space of different zooplankton trajectories can be projected onto a low dimensional space of generalized parameters and the genotype evolution dynamics can be easily followed using this low-dimensional space.

Hierarchical size-structured populations: The linearized semigroup approach
TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the linear stability of a hierarchical size-structured population model where the vital rates (mortality, fertility and growth rate) depend both on size and a general functional of the population density.

Simple stage-structured models for wild and transgenic mosquito populations
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors formulate and study discrete-time stage-structured models, based on systems of difference equations, for wild and transgenic mosquito populations, and divide the mosquito population into two classes: the larvae class which consists of the first three aquatic stages in a mosquito's lifetime, and the adult class.
