TLDR
In this paper, a new equation was proposed, which excludes empirical correction terms but includes a term explicitly related to the enthalpy of decomposition, which is at least as effective in predicting calorific values for a set of 1004 coals as equivalent equations derived for 6 subsets of the coals.

The hydrophobicity of coal macerals

TL;DR: In this paper, the magnitude of the contact angle on vitrinite is shown to be a function of coal rank, increasing with increasing rank to a maximum for low volatile bituminous rank coals then decreasing for anthracite.
Journal ArticleDOI

Coal analysis by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy: a tutorial review

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a comprehensive review of the use of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for coal analysis, including fundamentals and key factors, operation modes, data processing and analytical results.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estimation of gross calorific value based on coal analysis using regression and artificial neural networks

TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between proximate and ultimate analysis and coal GCV was investigated by regression and artificial neural networks (ANNs) methods, and the multivariable regression studies have shown that the model (c) is the most suitable estimator of GCV.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estimation of coal gross calorific value based on various analyses by random forest method

TL;DR: In this article, the relationship among ultimate and proximate analyses of 6339 US coal samples from 26 states with gross calorific value (GCV) have been investigated by multivariable regression (MVR) and random forest (RF) models.
Journal ArticleDOI

Coal property analysis using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

TL;DR: Li et al. as discussed by the authors applied a non-linearized multivariate dominant factor based partial least square (PLS) model to analyze coal properties through laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS).

Dependence of coal liquefaction behaviour on coal characteristics. 2. Role of petrographic composition

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparison of the liquefaction behaviour of two lithotypes from a Kentucky bituminous coal indicated that in this process pseudovitrinite is a reactive maceral.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polymeric structure of coal. 1. Role of ether bonds in constitution of high-rank vitrinite

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed study on molecular weights of products from reductive alkylation of high-rank vitrinite is reported, which is consistent with results from mild hydrogenolysis and air oxidation of bituminous coals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydroxyl contents of coals: new data and statistical analyses

TL;DR: In this paper, the phenolic hydroxyl content of 35 coals has been supplemented by the study of a further 17 samples, and various statistical analyses have been made of the relationship of the data for the full set of 52 samples to other properties of the coals.
