Ceric-sulfate-catalyzed synthesis of 14-aryl-or 14-alkyl-14H-dibenzo[aj]xanthene under conventional heating and microwave irradiation

TLDR
In this article, a simple and facile procedure for the synthesis of 14-aryl or 14-alkyl-14H-dibenzo[aj]xanthenes is described.
Abstract
A simple and facile procedure for the synthesis of 14-aryl- or 14-alkyl-14H-dibenzo[aj]xanthenes is described. The procedure takes place by the one-pot condensation of 2-naphthol with aldehydes in the presence of anhydrous ceric sulfate as the catalyst under solvent-free conventional heating and microwave irradiation.Key words: xanthene, one-pot condensation, aldehyde, 2-naphthol, ceric sulfate, solvent-free, microwave irradiation.

Chromium(III) Terephthalate Metal Organic Framework (MIL-101): HF-Free Synthesis, Structure, Polyoxometalate Composites, and Catalytic Properties

TL;DR: In this paper, mixed materials of the metal-organic framework (MOF), chromium(III) terephthalate (MIL-101), and phosphotungstic acid (PTA) were synthesized in aqueous media in the absence of hydrofluoric acid XRD analysis indicates the presence of ordered PTA assemblies residing in both the large cages and small pores of MIL-101, which suggests the formation of previously undocumented structures.

TL;DR: Three lipophilic pH indicators made by covalently binding the xanthene dyes fluoresce in, eosin or dichlorofluorescein to the amino group of phosphatidylethanolamine were incorporated into phospholipid vesicles and the effect of pH on the fluorescence was characterized and it was concluded that these probes were promising candidates for the measurement of pH values at cell surfaces.
