Characteristic analysis of Otsu threshold and its applications

TLDR
This paper proves that Otsu threshold is equal to the average of the mean levels of two classes partitioned by this threshold, and proposes an improved Otsi algorithm that constrains the search range of gray levels.

A New Iterative Triclass Thresholding Technique in Image Segmentation

TL;DR: A new method in image segmentation that is based on Otsu's method but iteratively searches for subregions of the image for segmentation, instead of treating the full image as a whole region for processing is presented.

A cooperative semi-supervised fuzzy clustering framework for dental X-ray image segmentation

TL;DR: Experimental results have revealed that clustering quality of the cooperative framework is better than those of the relevant methods, which shows the advantages of such the algorithm in the conjunction domain between expert systems and medical informatics.

Survey over image thresholding techniques and quantitative performance evaluation

TL;DR: 40 selected thresholding methods from various categories are compared in the context of nondestructive testing applications as well as for document images, and the thresholding algorithms that perform uniformly better over nonde- structive testing and document image applications are identified.

A new method for gray-level picture thresholding using the entropy of the histogram

TL;DR: Two methods of entropic thresholding proposed by Pun (Signal Process.,2, 1980, 223–237;Comput.16, 1981, 210–239) have been carefully and critically examined and a new method with a sound theoretical foundation is proposed.
