Improvement of centre segregation in continuous casting bloom and the resulting carbide homogeneity in bearing steel GCr15

TL;DR: In this paper, solidification structure and center segregation in continuously cast bearing steel GCr15 blooms with 220mm×260 mm were obtained by different casting conditions (M-EMS,...
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of machined surface quality and near-surface microstructure of a high speed thrust angular contact ball bearing

TL;DR: In this article, a typical high speed thrust angular contact ball bearing was selected, and the machined surface quality and near-surface microstructure of the race-way and rolling ball were systematically characterized by using of a probe surface profiler, white light interferometer, optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) combined with focused ion beam (FIB).
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of the influencing factors of combined surface modification on the rolling contact fatigue performance and crack growth of AISI 52100 steel

TL;DR: In this paper , the combined treatment of shot peening and ultrasonic surface rolling was applied to the surface modification of AISI 52100 steel to improve the microhardness and residual stress of the alloy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of ultrasonic rolling on the surface integrity and corrosion properties of GCr15 steel before and after quenching

TL;DR: In this article , two new surface strengthening processes, ultrasonic rolling treatment before and after quenching, were investigated on GCr15 steel and ABAQUS simulation was conducted for the two processes.

Steels for bearings

TL;DR: In this paper, the structure and properties of bearing steels prior to the point of service are first assessed and described in the context of steelmaking, manufacturing and engineering requirements, followed by a thorough critique of the damage mechanisms that operate during service and in accelerated tests.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tempering of steel

G. R. Speich, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an understanding of the processes involved in the tempering of iron-carbon martensites and how they are affected by alloying elements, and how these processes overlap and occur on such a fine scale.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of microsegregation induced banding phenomena in steels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a review of banding in hypoeutectoid and hypereutectoroid steels and identify similarities and differences in the banding that occurs in commercial Hypo-utectors versus HypoHypereutectoroid Steels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Solidification in Spray Forming

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple numerical model for the spray-formed grain size arising from the deposition of the various droplets in the spray and combines insights provided by the model with previous investigations of the phenomena occurring during and immediately after deposition to propose a comprehensive description of the important solidification behavior during spray forming.
Journal ArticleDOI

A quantitative analysis of the influence of carbides size distributions on wear behaviour of high-speed steel in dry rolling/sliding contact

TL;DR: In this paper, wear tests on high-speed steels of the same chemical composition but different carbide distributions induced by different manufacturing routes are considered, showing that the manufacturing route of the steel plays a major roll on its wear performance.
