Constructing constructs for psychopathology: the NIMH research domain criteria.
TLDR
A description of the impetus for the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health's (NIMH) Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) initiative is described and an update of progress on that initiative to date is provided.Abstract:
As a commentary for the special section on Reconceptualizing the Classification of Mental Disorders, this article begins with a description of the impetus for the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health's (NIMH) Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) initiative and provides an update of progress on that initiative to date. The commentary then engages the articles in this special section, beginning with a response to Berenbaum's concern that the RDoC approach to sorting constructs across multiple units of analysis espouses a de facto biological fundamentalism. This leads us to delineate the relationship between RDoC and the NIMH priorities relevant to this initiative. The commentary then considers how Patrick's iterative "construct-network" method can be applied to RDoC construct validation, highlighting several aspects that are particularly useful. One aspect of this work involves determining subject inclusion and exclusion criteria that provide an appropriate range of variance. Finally, this commentary considers the Bilder group's article, explicating the ways in which multilevel models can foster development of hypotheses and informatics approaches needed for further RDoC progress.read more

Neurogenetics Approaches to Mapping Pathways in Developmental Psychopathology
TL;DR: An overview of this relatively new field that includes techniques such as imaging genetics and imaging gene by environment interaction studies is provided and how work in this field has informed the understanding of the development of psychopathology is discussed.

Elimination, not reduction: Lessons from the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) and multiple realisation.
TL;DR: The thesis of multiple realisation that Borsboom et al. are relying on should not be taken for granted, and the reductionist research strategies in psychopathology research (the Research Domain Criteria framework, in particular) are bound to lead to eliminativism rather than reductionism.

Clinical characteristics of misophonia and its relation to sensory processing sensitivity: A critical analysis
Dean McKay,Bianca P. Acevedo +1 more
TL;DR: The authors reviewed psychological characteristics of misophonia (selective sound aversion) and provided a model for etiology, associated emotional reactions, and psychological conditions, which can effectively account for the manifestation of the condition and the ways in which it may present with other established diagnostic conditions.

Skin conductance response to trauma interview as a candidate biomarker of trauma and related psychopathology in youth resettled as refugees
Lana Ruvolo Grasser,Bassem B. Saad,Celine Bazzi,Cassandra Wanna,Hiba Abu Suhaiban,Dalia Mammo,P. Jovanovic,Arash Javanbakht +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors used the mobile eSense app on a iPad to obtain continuous recordings of skin conductance level (SCL) during a trauma interview (trauma SCL), which was calculated by subtracting the baseline SCL from the maximum amplitude of the trauma SCL.

Reinterpreting comorbidity: a model-based approach to understanding and classifying psychopathology.
TL;DR: A meta-analysis of a liability spectrum model of comorbidity is presented, in which specific mental disorders are understood as manifestations of latent liability factors that explain comorbridity by virtue of their impact on multiple disorders.
