TLDR
This antibody is found only in donors who had previously received penicillin, and there is an increased incidence of the antibody in allergic persons.Abstract:
CIRCULATING antipenicillin antibody (CAPA) was first reported by Ley et al.1 During routine blood-banking procedures the serum of a prospective transfusion recipient was found to agglutinate an entire panel of erythrocytes that had been stored with penicillin as part of the preservative; erythrocytes from the same donors, when not exposed to penicillin, were not agglutinated by this serum. Ley and his co-workers1 and Watson, Joubert and Bennett,2 in tests on 2000 and 3000 unselected serums, respectively, found this antibody only in donors who had previously received penicillin. Nature and extent of penicillin side-reactions, with particular reference to fatalities from anaphylactic shock.
TL;DR: An appraisal is made of toxic, microbiogenic, and allergic side effects occurring in man as a result of large amounts of penicillin increasingly used in medical and veterinary practice, including a study of 151 anaphylactic fatalities reported to have followedPenicillin administration.

Drug-induced immune hemolytic anemia
George Garratty,Lawrence D. Petz +1 more
TL;DR: Hemolytic anemia may develop with red cell destruction being primarily extravascular, and knowledge of clinical manifestations and laboratory aids to diagnosis is necessary to distinguish immunohematologic abnormalities caused by drugs from other causes.

The Use of Cephalosporins in Penicillin-allergic Patients: A Literature Review
TL;DR: Overall cross reactivity between penicillins and cephalosporins is lower than previously reported, though there is a strong association between amoxicillin and ampicillin with first- and second-generation cep Halosporin that share a similar R1 side chain.

Inhibition of Granulopoiesis in Vivo and in Vitro by β-Lactam Antibiotics
TL;DR: There was a good correlation between the inhibitory capacity of 3-lactam antibiotics in vitro and the doses inducing neutropenia in vivo and these observations may be relevant for therapy in the granulocytopenic patient.

Immunologic Cross-Reactivity between Penicillins and Cephalosporins: A Review
TL;DR: There is evidence of specific immune response to cephalosporins that indicates independently acquired hypersensitivity rather than cross-reactivity in some patients, and this finding is impossible to determine because penicillin-allergic patients have an increased incidence of hypersensitivity reactions to drugs immunologically unrelated to penicillins.

Serological studies on the blood of the primates ii. the blood groups in anthropoid apes.
TL;DR: It would seem that a genus, perhaps even a family, of animals may be characterized by a special serological factor, not identical with the one existing in the erythrocytes of the anthropoid apes and man.

A mechanism of cell destruction in individuals sensitized to foreign antigens and its implications in auto-immunity. combined clinical staff conference at the national institutes of health.
TL;DR: For example, drug purpura (1-6), drug hemolytic anemia (7-9), and drug leukopenia (10-12) are classic examples of diseases in which sensitization to a foreign antigen causes destruction of the sensibility as mentioned in this paper.

Clinical and Bacteriologic Studies of the Effect of Massive Doses of Penicillin G on Infections Caused by Gram-Negative Bacilli
TL;DR: FECTIONS due to gram-negative bacilli are presently increasing in frequency and difficulty of management, and one approach to the therapy of this type of disease has been a search for and development of more effective antimicrobial compounds.
